Darling Ingredients Internationaldevelops, produces and markets ingredients of animal origin for end products for very diverse applications such as pharmaceutics, food, feed, technology and energy, using innovative process technologies. Innovative process technologies form the basis for the development and production of the end products such as animal proteins and minerals.
Rousselot, part of Darling Ingredients, the world’s largest producer of gelatin and collagen peptides, is committed to develop innovative and sustainable production processes. Gelatin is a versatile product which is mainly processed in pharmaceutical applications, confectionery, dairy, fish and meat products, whereas collagen peptides are used for health and nutrition applications. Rousselot’s new range of purified gelatins and collagens target the biomedical market for research and clinical applications.
In Ghent Belgium, Rousselot is active in the chemical sector with about 170 employees; on the one hand in a fully continuous production plant and on the other hand in a center of expertise with a worldwide R&D center, a Pilot Plant and a European application lab. All these activities are located at the same site in the port of Ghent.
As Raw Mat Purchase Manager you are responsible for the optimal flow of raw materials (animal by-products like. pig skin and bovine hide..) to the production facilities with the primary objective the creation of added value for the company.
The Raw Mat Purchase Manager must manage the product line(s) for which he/she is responsible. He/she must ensure that the production plant is all the time provided with the right volumes of raw material at the right quality at the right time with controlled cost. In order to do so the raw materials buyer maintains good relationships with current suppliers and actively develops new relationships and new business.
This responsibility will not only be limited to the Rousselot Ghent operation but will be extended to other responsibilities (type of raw material, other plant locations) within our EMEA market.
You will report to the Rousselot EMEA Purchase Director.
Tasks & responsibilities:
- Managing a portfolio of raw materials suppliers (purchases, negotiations, etc.) in accordance with the overall strategy determined by the EMEA Purchase Director.
- Being in close contact with suppliers to anticipate volumes/ arrivals/ market developments
- Understanding the market dynamics, being proactive in developing new business.
- Direct functional reporting line to the Rousselot Ghent Site Manager.
- Being in close contact with the Supply Chain Manager to supervise the overall raw material supply planning for which he/she is in charge and inform in time the people in charge of the supply planning.
- Being in permanent contact with the supply chain and production to anticipate and adjust purchases, being proactive on the basis of stocks and arrivals of raw materials.
- Assisting in the management of the documentary, regulatory and logistics part.
- Quality monitoring of suppliers (audits/complaints/debtors management)
Profile:
Our ideal candidate likes to operate autonomously, has a strong hands-on mentality & is passionate about developing and maintaining good business relationships. He/she understands the strategic importance of solid suppliers relations and is able to convert them in mutual results and added value.
- You hold a master degree (Business schools, Engineer or Master in Food Processing, agriculture education or equivalent experience).
- You are passionate about commercial contacts and business development (intuition, anticipation, strength of arguments).
- You possess strong analytical skills and rigor that support you in reaching your targets.
- Experience within the field of Raw Material purchasing from animal origin, within slaughterhouse operation and/or agricultural educational background is a plus.
- You like to work both from a theoretical point of view as well as having your hands on.
- You will be closely connected to operations of our Ghent site and other Rousselot EMEA facilities and like to work in a team with open/direct communication.
- You are a team player but you can also excel in solitary assignments.
- You are a true entrepreneur with a proactive mindset.
- You are genuinely curious, you have attention for continuous improvement and strive for tangible results.
- You like operating in a fast moving environment.
- You can communicate, orally as written, in English, German, Dutch and preferably French.
- Microsoft Office has no secrets for you.
Travel: for this role a minimum of 2 days per week travel within Europe is required.
