Function

We’re currently looking for a consultant to join our client’s team in an international environment. This software engineer will work within a development and support team of over 25 members. The team is responsible for creating and maintaining in-house solutions tailored to our client’s international business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

As a software engineer in this role, you will report to a Software Solutions team leader and take on the following tasks within the context of the team’s methodologies, procedures, guidelines, and standards:

  • Participate in project teams dedicated to developing new solutions.
  • Conduct software analysis, development, unit testing, and provide UAT support.
  • When applicable, create or update software specifications, test cases, and documentation.
  • Investigate issues within the I-Series applications, researching and detailing solutions.

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate should possess the following general skills:

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Capacity to perform under stress.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical abilities.
  • Organized and comfortable operating within standard project management methodologies, particularly Agile.
  • Proficient in English, both verbal and written, as it is essential for this role.

Technical Skills:

The software engineer should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in software analysis and development on I-Series. Key technical skills required include:

  • Thorough knowledge of SQL and RPG ILE (free), including embedded SQL.

  • Familiarity with XML, both in general and in an RPG context.

  • Understanding of web services/SOAP in an RPG context.

  • Knowledge of Stored Procedures.

  • Additional technical knowledge that would be considered an asset:

    • Communication methods on I-Series: MQ series, FTP, DDM, IFS.
    • Experience with RPG/400 or older.
    • Knowledge of JSON, particularly in an RPG context.
    • HTML.
    • Familiarity with a software change management system, preferably ALDON Lm(i).
    • Experience with team collaboration tools like Atlassian Jira and Confluence.
    • Usage of IBM Rational Developer and IBM Data Studio.
    • Understanding of IBM API’s.
