Role description

With over 35 million subtitled and 10 million dubbed minutes of content in 100+ languages, Iyuno-SDI Group is focused on connecting people, and connecting content to the world.

We are looking for new joiners for our local translation team in Belgium, that is responsible for delivery of subtitles to local clients, translated from English to Dutch (Flemish) and reverse. As a subtitler for our local Belgian team, you provide broadcast-quality subtitles for a variety of programmes for a wide range of clients, ensuring all completion deadlines are met and client requirement guidelines adhered to.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• To edit text to established reading speeds, retaining the content and flavour of the source material, whilst ensuring that subtitles stay synchronised with the soundtrack and allow adequate access to picture and graphics.
• To keep records of program-specific terminology for consistency purposes.
• To check, recut and re-edit existing files in line with client/format specifications.
• To proofread your translations to ensure flowing and idiomatic language.
• To work effectively to deadlines, co-ordinating subtitle preparation with other team members as required.
• To assist in the development and implementation of editorial policy and new working practices such as post-editing of machine translations, as directed.
• To liaise with your team leader or planner to ensure that files are delivered on time.

As a subtitler you are:

• In possession of a bachelor or master degree in translating - You are fluent in Dutch and English. Experience in subtitling is a plus.
• Eager to learn - You are eager to learn and open to constructive feedback.
• Stress resistant and flexible -You are flexible and able to handle the pressure of working with deadlines.
• Efficient and independent -You are able to work efficiently and independently.
• Tech savvy - You pick up new software quickly.
• Accurate -You work accurately and are able to keep an overview.
• A team player -You are involved and helpful towards colleagues. You solve your own problems, but you also know when to ask for help.

What do we offer:

• A fulltime job for 38 hours per week including the option to start on short notice.Starting date should be on short notice, and working 32 hours per week is negotiable.
• An on-the-job training.We will support you in learning to work with subtitle software and we help you familiarize yourself with guidelines and requirements of our clients, but most of all we will teach you how to quickly and properly handle subtitle assignments.
• Part of a team.You will become part of a translation team that consists of colleagues with a lot of experience that is also great fun to work with.
• Flexible working conditions.Besides a stable income and interesting secondary labour conditions, this position comes with a lot of freedom. You have the opportunity to work from home, but you can also choose to work from the office part time.
