Research Scientist Food (Bakery)

For our client, located in Herentals, we are looking for a research scientist for the bakery industry.

You will be responsible for the development of new application knowledge for the bakery industry. You are eager to take ownership and enjoy working in a diverse and dynamic environment. Together with the entire team you will troubleshoot problems of customers and ensure they receive the maximum value.

• Set up the design of experiments ensuring scientific rigor. Execute in an accurate manner the designed experiments to meet agreed deadlines.
• Contribute to providing technical advice and recommendations based on the outcome of the experiments.
• Perform literature studies to extend knowledge in the field of antioxidants and antimicrobials for food, packaging technology and process improvement.
• Contribute to the development, validation and implementation of new and improved test methods (including the use of statistical analysis)
• Maintain good laboratory practices in recording data, calibration of equipment to ensure accuracy of results, general laboratory maintenance and disposal
• Communicate with Salespersons and customers in the EMEA region and give presentations
• Contribute to good working conditions for the laboratory
• Interact in a professional manner with a wide variety of individuals at all levels (e.g. R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Customer Service, Sales, Operations, and Marketing).

Wie zoeken wij voor Research Scientist Food (Bakery)?

• Master’s degree in Food science, Food Engineering, Food Technology or related field (Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry) or equivalent by experience, preferably experience in de bakery industry, with at least 3 years of experience.
• Experience in a laboratory, working specifically in a bakery environment.
• Knowledge about bakery applications, antioxidants and (food)microbiology
• Acquainted with the Oxidative Stability Instrument (OSI), Oxygen Bomb, HPLC, UV Spectrophotometer, rheology and formulation of new blends for the bakery industry…
• Fluent in English is essential (spoken & written)
• Experience in evaluating and interpreting results and writing reports
• PC literate (Word, Excel, Access, e-mail, ERP-systems)
• Very hands-on, independent, pro-active, and not afraid to take initiatives
• Diligent, good team player with self-motivation and initiative
• Good and open communicator, open for giving presentations or communicating with customers
• Experience in independently evaluating and interpreting results.
• Ability to demonstrate creative ability in solving technical issues.
• Self-starting, highly motivated, able to work well with others in a team-based environment
• Highly accurate and pro-active attitude
• Flexible in adjusting to organizational needs
• Ability to work independently under pressure
• Willingness to travel
