At Viral Vector Services (VVS), a business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific, we deliver from process development through commercial supply and offer the expertise and resources vital to help clients deliver innovative gene therapies. Placed in the forefront of our leading and pioneering Cell and Gene Therapy business enabling clients to cure genetic, rare, and otherwise untreatable diseases.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President and General Manager of the Viral Vector Service Business Unit, the General Manager is a visible and critical leadership role that will lead our Development, Pre-Clinical and Commercial Viral Vector manufacturing facility in Gosselies and Seneffe (Belgium). S\he will play a key role in growing our business and brand within the rapidly expanding Gene Therapy Contract Developing and Manufacturing (CDMO) services industry. This individual will strategically deploy internal capabilities to deliver technical and business results using a combination of awareness of external market forces and a deep understanding of our customer’s needs. S\he will inspire change across the network, identifying process improvement opportunities and delivering solutions to such challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Full ownership of the P&L for the Belgian sites of Viral Vector Services.
  • Ensure full alignment with both customers and regulatory authorities to deliver flawless compliance.
  • Promote a culture of Quality and Continuous Improvement. Ensure strict adherence to cGMP, industry and Thermo Fisher standards in terms of Quality.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS regulation and Thermo Fisher Standards. Develop and maintain a culture of Safety and Security.
  • Provide ground-breaking leadership which continually sets a higher standard for the sites, Business Unit, division and PSG.
  • Find opportunities and drive actions that would enable business performance, accelerate growth, improve margins, and drive down working capital needs.
  • Leverages complementary strengths and develops high performing teams; ensuring scalable talent in key positions; ensures key capabilities are developed or acquired. Recruit and retain best in class talent.
  • Develop, drive, and cultivate acquisition of new business by actively expanding services to current clients, and introduction of new clients into the network.
  • Develops and carries out strategies to deliver upon both long-term and short-term goals which also aligns with the strategic business plans of PSG and the company.
  • Is a problem-identifier and solver; recognizes a wide range of early warning signals in the Business, which allows and/or requires a proactive approach to problem prevention.

Qualifications:
  • Bring a blend of strategic and operational expertise and a track record of leadership experience in dynamic, complex and highly regulated manufacturing environments delivering strong operational results.
  • Knowledge of the levers that drive revenue and margin at the business unit level. Must have successful P&L experience.
  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree, advanced degree in business administration or science related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of success, in hiring talent, building teams, delivering results, organizational growth, and successfully achieving business financial results.
