Janssen Infectious Diseases is seeking a talented associate scientist for its research & development site in Beerse, Belgium. The successful candidate will join the Infectious Diseases research team to discover and support the identification of small and large molecule therapeutics for the treatment of viral infections. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative and science-driven environment and should be highly motivated and passionate in conducting research and associated laboratory tasks involving the handling of laboratory animals. Primary responsibilities (include, but are not limited to) Support research activities and project goals by contributing to the preclinical evaluation of novel antiviral therapeutics, including small molecules and biologics within different teams. Design and execute assigned experiments such as cell-based virology and/or immunological assays, conduct studies in pre-clinical animal models, including dosing of molecules using different administration routes and perform molecular, biochemical and/or immunohistological characterizing of samples ex vivo. Demonstrate creative and analytical capabilities to interpret and troubleshoot results; recommend potential solutions based on observations and literature. Analyze and document experimental data in laboratory notebooks, share and discuss results and prepare SOPs as required. Strong capabilities to collaborate and work within a multidisciplinary team under limited supervision. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s with 4+ years or Master’s degree with 3+ years in virology or related life science discipline with FELASA accreditation (or equivalent). Experience/skills: Work experience in biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred. Experience in infectious disease research working in a BSL2+/3 laboratory is a plus. Hands-on experience and certifications for pre-clinical in vivo work. Excellent technical skills in cellular/molecular biology, virology and/or immunology conducting various mammalian cell culture techniques, cell isolation from mouse tissues and human blood and experiments using multiple technology platforms (e.g. immunofluorescence staining, IHC, cytokine quantitation, ELISA, …). Personal skills and Competencies: Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities. Detail-oriented, with excellent record-keeping skills Demonstrate a sense of urgency, be organized and adhere to timelines Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in constructive and productive ways with members of the team Possess an enthusiastic and intellectually curious approach to performing experiments in the lab; must think critically and creatively.
