Director, Technology TAA EU assets
Based in our modern office in Mechelen, the Director of Technology TAA - EU assets, reports directly to the CTO, and is a member of the European Technology Management Team. They are responsible for leading a diverse team including project managers, analysts, architects and developers. This includes the daily management of Cloud software development; concretely this means managing the relationship between the various projects to be launched within this program. It is the task of our new Director of Technology to ensure that all projects within this program are on the same line and help achieve the ultimate goal, taking into account the proposed budgets, deadlines and scope. This role will work closely together with colleagues in the Management Team.
This role is new within Wolters Kluwer and was created because of the highly successful growth of the Wolters Kluwer organization and technology team. This role interacts with multiple high-level stakeholders the role is highly visible within the organization. Therefor the role requires a strategic operator with excellent people skills, ability to translate strategy into actionable operational processes, good process management skills and deep SAAS Platform knowledge.
Key deliverables for the role will include:

  • Development of relationships across the various technology communities within the Wolters Kluwer organization

Key responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and guidance to associate directors, managers, and/or professionals based on organizational goals and company direction
  • Develops short and long-range strategic plans and budgets
  • Develops policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure
  • Determine organizational objectives and divisional plans guided by a divisional strategy
  • Manages budgets, develops performance goals and implements changes
  • Responsible for Information Systems operations and for software systems analysis and programming
  • Reviews systems development project requests and coordinates schedules and related departmental activities
  • Provides overall direction and guidance to assigned project staff
  • Reviews and evaluates work of subordinate staff and prepares performance reports
  • Prepares activity and progress reports.
Responsibilities Management Software Development Team
  • Planning and prioritization of projects and development cycles, monitoring and reporting with regard to team, budget, resources, results, etc;
  • Organizing and leading steering committees in collaboration with stakeholders (business and product development, architecture team, etc.) and with other teams from the business unit (services, back office, sales, business development, etc.);
  • Contract management and procurement (external partners); daily management of the development team, including quality management, process improvement and project management
  • Program Management Cloud Solutions
  • Lead the Cloud development program for Tax & Accounting Europe central asset portfolio
  • Monitoring budget, scope and timing of the entire program and the different project tracks;
  • Set concrete objectives and monitor them closely in collaboration with the other management team members;
  • Ensure project reporting, and indicate possible deviations and exceptions to the budget, timing and scope;
  • Functional management of the different project managers who handle the technical implementation along with their development team;
  • In collaboration with the architecture team, developers and project managers organise and chair the various project boards, and in this way ensure that the architecture, the user interface, and the QA governance meet expectations;
  • Ensure contract management with potential offshore partners or external vendors who develop the software in collaboration with the local development teams;
  • Work closely with the teams based in India and other global offices; to ensure delivery of the Europe central asset portfolio
  • Enhance virtual collaboration through team members that are spread over different locations across the country;
  • Manage complex projects from analysis, design and development through to the production stage;
  • Coordinate product specifications / requirements between the technical and business side;
  • Develop a financial dashboard to monitor the program;
  • Given the scope of the program, ensure risk and change management and continuous communications to all involved stakeholders;
  • Close collaboration with the European cloud team that aims to create an international platform for cloud applications

Your profile
  • Solid, senior-level software development management experience in the development of business applications (a must);
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Ability to work cross-functionally& cross-country in a fast-paced environment;

  • Executive-level written and verbal communication, presentation, and facilitation skills;

In addition, the following would be highly desirable:
  • A background in development of cloud solutions (a major plus);
  • Experience in the market of tax and accounting (another major plus).
