  • Support, and in a second phase lead, the organization of EHS in Mechelen, allowing all employees and guests to work in a green, safe, innovative, and efficient environment that respects relevant local laws and regulations, as well as corporate policies.
  • Advise and support senior management in Mechelen on issues related to the well-being of employees, occupational safety, health protection, psychosocial aspects, ergonomics, occupational hygiene, and environmental issues.
  • Manage and perform appropriate risk assessments and work proactively to avoid risk situations in Mechelen.
  • Manage, maintain, and support emergency response plans and first aid support in Mechelen.
  • Coordinate the investigation of any EHS related incidents and ensure lessons learnt are adequately cascaded.
  • Support the development of a corporate ISO-compliant Environmental, Health and Safety Management System, and lead its implementation at the Galapagos site in Mechelen.
  • Support Galapagos’ Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, (initially) focussing on the aspects Wellbeing and Building-Related Eco-footprint.
  • Support the certification of relevant Galapagos assets according to international standards such as BREEAM and WELL.
  • Organize corporate initiatives aimed at improving environmental, health and safety awareness and engagement amongst Galapagos employees (such as celebrating the United Nation’s World Environment and Safety days).
Who are you?
  • Have at least completed higher professional education and specifically having successfully completed a Prevention Advisor level 1 training.
  • Have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in Health, Safety & Environment in a similar job, preferably in an international R&D organization;
  • Have the ability to think strategically and take a helicopter view, but also be able to dive deep into operational problems when required;
  • Be an expert in the full breadth of working conditions, environment and safety standards, systems, and standards.
  • Have strong analytical skills, being able to think in terms of possibilities.
  • Have strong leadership skills: ability to shape culture, sense of belonging, motivate a large group of people to work towards a common set of goals
  • Have the ability to manage a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team being a coach and people leader
  • Be a very good communicator. He/she should be able to not only motivate, onboard the team members but also build the EHS mindset across the various department in order to get this EHS culture/mindset across the company embedded.
  • Excellent in the Dutch and English language, spoken and written.
