Job Purpose/Overview
Financial controller is responsible for leading the business unit’s financial accounting and control activities to ensure the financial transactions, policies, procedures, practices, and systems, meet the unit’s short and long-term business objectives and comply with the Mars Finance Manual and practice guidance and local legal and regulatory requirements. As member of the Finance Leadership Team, Financial Controller also plays a leadership role in developing and engaging the wider S&F community, leads the finance operations team, engages with the MFS and ICTC teams and plays instrumental role in managing, engaging and developing direct reports.


Key Responsibilities
Manage financial reporting ensuring:
  • an efficient and effective period close process that deliver accurate information, maintenance of appropriate supporting documentation
  • identification and timely resolution of complex accounting matters
  • performance review including monitoring of key performance indicators to identify insights
  • compliance with all Mars Finance Manual policies, Recurring Reports Manual and other guidance/practices including compliance to local GAAP/statutory and other local legal/regulatory requirements
Audit and collaboration with financial centers:
  • Plan and manage the year-end or other audit processes with the internal and external auditors, including timely resolution of all findings and comments, close collaboration with Tax Controversy team and local PwC team in case of Tax audit
  • Serve as a liaison with specialist teams (e.g., Treasury, Tax and Currency Centers, ICTC, MGSF) and ensure appropriate unit compliance with all related requirements
Management of performance:
  • Analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner. Clearly communicate periodic, quarterly, and annual financial information. Identify, assess, and communicate risks and opportunities affecting the financial statements and forecasts.
  • Responsible for meeting and exceeding customer expectations via setting clear objectives and supervising the activities of a team of specialists (GA and Fin Ops) to ensure that the organization’s transactions are accounted for appropriately, processed accurately and on time
  • Ensure that the organization’s transactions (in Mars Global Services Finance and locally by the Financial Accountants and Fin Ops) are accounted for appropriately, processed accurately and on time. The role retains the overall responsibility for the Unit Financials, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable balances. The role is the first point of local escalation for any issues arising in these areas
  • Lead the Unit, ICTC and MGSF relationship, through periodic reviews of the metrics, feedback and agreement of the standardization agenda, of which you will be the local lead across AP, AR and G&A
  • In line with the S&F vision, work closely with MGSF team on Smart operations, e.g. to identify areas for harmonization and simplification of transactions and processes
Line management:
  • Manage and develop highly engaged associates by leading efforts that continuously drive associate and team engagement. Delivering a succession pipeline for critical roles, effective task allocation and management, high performance collaboration, high team engagement, coaching and quarterly appraisals.

Job Specifications/Qualifications -
1. Education & Professional Qualification
B.A. /B.S. with Accounting or similar concentration; C.P.A. or equivalent experience/ certification preferred.
2. Knowledge/Experience
7-10 years of relevant experience
Experience with financial statement reporting obligations, including an understanding of GAAP and local regulatory requirements, and internal controls.

Fluent in English; fluency in Dutch/French/German is a plus.
