HEALTH & SAFETY TECHNICAL MANAGER & BUSINESS PARTNER


The key objective for the post-holder is the elimination of workplace accidents and ill health, providing technical expertise in areas of policy and procedural requirements in the H&S Management System (HSMS), project management, legislative compliance, interpretation of complex H&S requirements and providing practical advice and assistance. Support operational and functional management in HC Benelux on technical H&S issues, providing suitable advice, assistance and training.


Your tasks and responsibilities:

As aH&S Business Partner (CEM/AGG/SCM/RMC BE/RMC NL):

  • You plan, organize, implement, monitor, report, and champion the HC Benelux H&S requirements, as outlined in the HC Benelux Policy and HSMS, within Business Line;
  • You support the management within the Business Line on all issues relating to H&S;
  • You provide any necessary advice and practical compliance methodology for any forthcoming legislation, Group / Area / Benelux requirements or new risks facing HC Benelux in area of responsibility;
  • You mentor and coach the senior managers in the Business Lines, in the area of responsibility, to identify and mitigate risk;
  • You develop and nurture relationships with the senior managers within the Business Lines, ensuring a broad understanding of the business needs and future goals, in order to maintain that the H&S services provided to our internal and external customers is appropriate, flexible, effective, and timely;
  • You act as the primary point of contact for the the national H&S regulatory and enforcement bodies;
  • You monitor and report on H&S performance across your area of responsibility and you promote the follow-up actions from internal / external audits, inspections, visible felt leadership (VFL) visits and any incidents.

As Technical Manager

  • You ensure that all accidents, dangerous occurrences, near-misses, incidents and cases of occupational ill health in your area of responsibility are fully investigated, using root cause analysis techniques and you provide advices on the necessary measures to avoid a similar occurrence;
  • You liaise with the company engineers, managers, and contractors regarding the performance of their plant and equipment, to ensure compliance with legal and company standards;
  • You work with the employees and the contractors, at all levels, to ensure a regulatory compliance and an improved H&S performance in their area of responsibility. You also work with the local operational and functional management, to ensure a consistent approach to the H&S management and a compliance with the HC Benelux HSMS.


The profile we are looking for:

The role requires an experienced Health & Safety Manager, capable of communicating with persons at all levels. The postholder must be able to carry out the functions defined in the key accountabilities and undertake continual professional development.
EDUCATION : Master’s degree or equivalent qualification suitable to the role.

In Belgium: Safety advisor Level 1 - In The Netherlands: HVK (Hoge VeiligheidsKundige) or equivalent qualification suitable to the role.

EXPERIENCE : 4 years minimum experience in a H&S advisory role.
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCES :

  • Trained in Root Cause Analyses (RCA)
  • Broad knowledge of H&S procedures, management systems and legislation
  • Affinity with technical issues
  • Languages Dutch, English. For Belgium also: French
  • MS-Office and SAP.
  • Communication (writing and speaking) skills on all different levels - Influencing & motivational skills
  • Analytical with systematic practical Process - Customer oriented and result driven
  • Team player as well as independent, decisive
