Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced in vivo Technician to join our Discovery site located in Beerse. The Technician will mainly help to develop and conduct in vivo assays/models with Mycobacterium tuberculosis to evaluate the efficacy of new anti-tuberculosis compounds, alone and in combination. He or she will also assist with the various in vitro M. tuberculosis assay currently in place at the Biosafety Level 3 laboratory. All this is done in a team-oriented, result-driven, international research environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct in vivo infection studies in mice:
  • Prepare and schedule experiment
  • Be the point of contact for animal caretakers/ weekend support
  • Ordering of mice and compounds
  • Intranasal infection of mice by using anaesthesia
  • Weighing, blood sampling and euthanasia of mice
  • Collection and processing of organs / blood samples
  • Animal and sample administration
  • Provide ad hoc support for in vitro microbiological analyses (e.g. time kill kinetics, compound profiling).
  • Analyse and interpret obtained data and prepare detailed lab reports in an ELN system according to departmental standards.
  • Establish an understanding of the relevance of the data being generated on the project.
  • Present own work confidently, internally, with clear rationale and produce slides on own work.

The following are minimum requirements related to the Technician position:

  • B. Sc. or M.Sc. with minimum 2 years of working experience in a relevant environment.
  • Experienced in all requested aspects of in vivo mouse work.
  • Experience in working with infectious agents in a Biosafety Level 3 laboratory is preferred.
  • Experience in microbiological techniques (working in sterile environment, handling bacterial cutures etc) is a plus.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Flexible mindset, good record keeping skills and attention to detail are essential.
