Your role:

The International Category Manager Retail formulates and executes the Retail Channel Strategy for the margarine, culinary oils and fats Business line, reporting to the Business line Marketing Director and in close co-operation with the full Management team and more specifically the Commercial Directors for North and South Europe.

Your key responsibilities and challenges are:

Own the Retail Private brands channel business:

  • Set channel KPI’s & approach to be rolled out locally
  • P&L responsible on a channel level, consolidate total group performance and propose corrective actions
  • Drive implementation with the local teams, supporting execution and sharing best practices

Drive Category Management and Shopper Marketing: specifically impact the Category Management agenda’s Key Accounts in close cooperation with the Local Key Account Managers and Category Managers. Leading the Expert Team on Shopper Marketing.

  • Gather and retain market knowledge on our categories.
  • Monitor trends and execute market research
  • Bring together the market data (product, pricing, competitors, etc.)
  • Build and retain knowledge on our products and applications in close cooperation with R&D
  • Support local teams with Category Management Plans for key retailers
  • Be the driver for extending Shopper Marketing into digital.
  • Develop communication materials for your channel on international level to support local teams (trade stories…)

Innovation and Portfolio Management of the Retail Private Brands Portfolio. Working with R&D and Consumer Insights to continuously innovate the consumer value proposition.

  • Manage the current product range: ongoing SWOT analysis of the current range (profitability) and analysis of new product opportunities.
  • Portfolio lifecycle management: Delisting of non-performing products, Follow-up of sales of new introductions, Follow-up of the number of SKU’s in the total assortment, Spotting gaps in the assortment in close cooperation with the local marketing managers
  • Generate new ideas for Innovation and New Product Development, build a strong innovation pipeline for your channel, and lead implementation from concept to implementation, together with local teams
  • Be the link between Sales & Marketing, R&D, Operations, etc.
  • Support the local teams in the implementation of strategic projects
  • Share best practice between countries
  • Install international synergies (on product- as well as on customer level)

Other than for these 3 main result areas, you are also involved with:

  • Organizing internal PR of our Vandemoortele assortment;
  • internal communication of our key customers and key products on intranet
  • promotion for our products in the company via tasting product promotion, etc.
  • organizing internal training and review meetings, build training content for the Vandemoortele Academy.

About you

  • 5 – 7 years’ experience, preferably with food companies or retailers;
  • Excellent knowledge of Category Management practices;
  • Leadership in knowledge for the international team, strong coaching qualities to bring the local teams to the next level;
  • A mature person with business understanding who can be a full acting and leading member in the international team;
  • A great team payer, and strong networker, enjoys cross-functional way-of-working, and brings people together behind a vision
  • Embraces change in pursuit of continuous growth for the organization, acts as a catalyst for strategic project acceleration
  • University education in economics, marketing or food science;
  • You can operate and lead projects in a matrix type structure with local managers and functional leads from the international team;
  • Strong analytical skills and able to deliver concise reports and presentations;
  • Strong business acumen, knows how to prioritize and focus for impact
  • Good command of English
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis.
