Are you an amazing IT Solution Expert Manufacturing (Data Historian / DCS / MOM) eager to join our global IT department,based in our HQ office in Belgium?
The IT Manufacturing team oversees applications supporting the Production & Maintenance Operations within the Supply & Technical Solutions organization. From an application point of view, the focus is on MES-EBR, Data Historian & SAP. Main activities are split between implementation projects, changes, and day to day support. Technical activities are fulfilled by SAP, MES, Historian and Validation consultants
As part of the IT Manufacturing & Devpt & Labs team, IT Solution Expert Manufacturing will report to the Head of IT Manufacturing, and will focus on Data Historian, DCS and MES. He/she builds implements and supports an end-to-end Data Historian solution as well as Manufacturing Operations Management systems implemented at UCB (with a current focus on OsiSoft PI and on the Siemens OpCenter & PCS7). The goal is to set up efficient and harmonized manufacturing processes within the Technical Operations community based on a unified system (OsiSoft PI System & MES) that integrates and organizes across business units all data and processes of UCB.
This includes the delivery of projects in close collaboration with all relevant parties (e.g. IT Organization, Manufacturing department, QA, third parties) in order to provide the Technical. Operations departments with Manufacturing applications that meet the business’s requirements defined in the operational level agreements (OLAs) and which are in accordance with the terms of the globally defined processes.
Scope: Assess project feasibility. Deliver projects in close collaboration with IT Organization as project lead, sub-project lead or project SME and implement new Data Historian systems - in conjunction with DCS and MES services with focus on Manufacturing and Maintenances modules
Geographical coverage: Internal manufacturing major plants are in Braine (BE) and Bulle (CH) plus smaller manufacturing sites located in Asia.

Project, Product and Service Delivery
Lead or act as member in projects in order to estimate project feasibility in addition of being responsible for functional specifications within the architecture phase. Provide Historian and MES solution for global processes including its documentation & integration in a cost-efficient way.
Ensure continuous support to all IT DMSO (Development, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Operations) users and the smooth operations of all IT systems in the scope as an IT System Owner by maintaining high level support, monitoring , reporting, system performance and IT systems periodic reviews ( as per Digital Systems Governance S
Ensure results are achieved per business cases ,aligned with IT vision of leveraging the ‘Power of the Data’ while fully complying with patient trust, TSSC principles (Trustworthiness, Security, Safety and Compliance) including external regulations and IT Standards & Practice.
Historian Expertise
Own and lead the Historian solution across Manufacturing activities
- Drive kernel or any project processes evolution based on evolving business requirements.
- Integrate/Link Historian processes with DCS from an end-to-end point of view and liaise with the corresponding process/system owner.
- Advise team members in maintaining & extending kernel functionalities & its integration across life cycle in close cooperation with GKU’s (Global Key Users) & other partners in a compliant way.
- Consider opportunities for continuous improvement and upgrade of the kernel to increase/reach high utilization of Historian in an efficient way.
- Adhere to a self-training attitude in order to bring up to date her/his technical knowledge ensuring that the solution proposed/delivered are innovative and rely on the most up-to date technologies.
- Ensure being compliant and having up-to-date knowledge of procedures and processes in a validated environment based on the approved training plan.
- Share knowledge within all stakeholders to increase awareness and facilitate skills increase and resource balancing
- Provide experience and knowledge to help IT Manufacturing in building and maintaining solutions with good performance and effective support to business units and act as 3rd Level support if necessary.
- Closely collaborate and guide project teams and the run organization regarding defined standards and UCB processes and procedures.
- Manages relationship within IT and Business, an ensure proper communication in order to increase IT contribution to the business success.
You will focus on Manufacturing projects & Runs activities:
- Ensure that deliverables are provided timely and aligned with project planning with the right expected quality and according to the allocated budget.
- Coordinate the efforts of all consultants together with stakeholder’s trough regular meetings.
- Be accountable for the projects and be the major point of contact for the consultants and stakeholders.
- Anticipate IT project risks (security, resources, budget, quality) escalating issues and making proposals when appropriate and managing the user’s expectations accordingly
- Ensure efficient handover to support teams and ensure they will be trained to support the application.
- Ensure that other IT team and experts are involved in the projects to deliver expected infrastructure and services.
Provide functional expertise combined with UCB process knowledge
Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:
- Master degree and certification in project management
- Experiences in regulated process focused on computing, GxP environment
- Experiences of 5+ years within IT in a global multi-national company preferred within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Have experience in 5+ end to end implementations, usually with a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in Manufacturing Execution Systems and Data Historians. Mixed skill should include configuration and expertise in OsiSoft, Wonderware, Siemens Simatic IT EBR / Opcenter Execution Pharma, Emerson Syncade, Rockwell FTPA, Werum PAS|X and AMPS.
- Experiences in interfacing MES and Data Historians with external applications mainly ERP, LIMS and Automation systems.
Business Knowledge
- Good understanding of Manufacturing & Maintenance landscape within pharma industry
- Experiences in regulated process focused on computing (GxP environment).
- Complete SDLC and CSV process knowledge.
IT technical skills
- Deep knowledge of Historian (with a focus on OsiSof PI systems) and DCS systems
- Broad IT infrastructure and good system knowledge regarding Manufacturing IT and automation integration.
- Understanding of business and application technology capabilities.
- Best exposure and quality applications like QALM, QMS, TrackWise, PDOCS and Veeva Vault.
- Manufacturing systems integration based on ISA 88 & ISA 95 concepts.
Other Skills
- Project management skills in global environment with international teams.
