Research Scientist - Visualization – Barco Labs (ADX)

Barco Labs is the Corporate Research & Development unit within Barco and is a global organization reporting to the CTO. In Barco Labs, we explore a broad range of cutting-edge topics including Novel Projection Technologies, Next Generation Optical Displays, Computational Optics, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics & Advanced Healthcare applications.


Key Responsibilities


In the Advanced Displays X (ADX) sub group within Barco Labs, we are looking for an “Research Scientist - Visualization" who will work on developing next generation visualization solutions for Barco. This role is based in the headquarters of Barco in Kortrijk (Belgium) and will join the ADX group and report to the Technology Director – Barco Labs (ADX sub group).

In this role you will:

Be the technical matter expert in the topics of advanced visualization physics, novel optical components, laser optics, &/ Computer-Generated Holography
Design & lead the rapid prototyping of new optical display solutions with an agile approach
Perform optical simulations/calculations needed for new product design & set up the necessary experiments in the laboratory
Actively document research findings in internal databases, contribute invention disclosures and publications for journals/conferences
Reach out to the external innovation ecosystem in your field and provide discovery reports to a broader audience
Provide optical design feedback for the broader Barco Labs organization and influence design decisions in the context of driving product to market
Coach & mentor others in your area of expertise within the group and within the broader Barco organization



Qualifications


You have a Maser/PhD degree in Optics/Optoelectronics/Photonics/Optical Engineering disciplines
You have worked in developing innovative optical imaging/display/optoelectronics products for at least 5 years
You have knowledge of Numerical Simulation tools along with some programming (python etc)
You have used standard optical software such as LightTools, Zemax or CODE V
You have experience in rapid prototyping of optical products
You have exposure to electromagnetic modelling, optics of think films, Driving electronics for displays (FPGAs, GPU)
You have exposure to the optical architectures within AR/VR/XR applications
You are a fast learner to pick up on new simulation/design tools & software
You are a self-driven, goals oriented and in general comfortable to work in a global organization
You are open to a limited amount of travel associated with this role (up to 20%)
You can communicate cross functionally in the company comfortably in English (Oral & Written)
