Req ID: 490152At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80 000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.
Mission
At Alstom, safety isn’t just a compliance requirement — it’s a core technical mission. As a Safety Assurance Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our signaling systems remain safe under all conditions — even degraded ones.
You’ll work across the entire V-cycle, from system design to final verification and validation, applying safety methodologies on system (functional analysis) and/or software (critical code review) allowing hazards identification and mitigations.
You’ll contribute to safety case delivery and support its assessment from ISA assessor.
Your Responsibilities
- Perform system safety analyses (functional safety analysis, hazard identification, FMEA/FMECA, risk assessment).
- Work on Trackside and Trainborne systems, exclusively within the Development Center.
- Depending on your technical strengths, contribute to either:
- Software safety: conducting critical code reviews for safety-critical components.
- Failure mode analysis: identifying risks and degraded modes at system level.
- Ensure traceability of safety requirements and perform the technical validation of evidences.
- Build and maintain safety documentation and support the creation of Safety Cases under the guidance of the PSAM.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (design, software, hardware, RAMS, V&V…) to understand and validate safety evidence.
- Participate in safety reviews and support the closure of findings from internal and external assessors.
- Safety is often seen as a paperwork job — but here, it’s deeply technical and connected to every engineering discipline.
- It’s one of the most cross-functional and intellectually stimulating roles in the project, allowing to build a wide network also outside Alstom.
- You’re part of an independent safety team, ensuring objectivity in line with CENELEC requirements.
- You contribute directly to the real-world safety of passengers and operators.
Education:
- Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
- Up to 5 years of experience.
- Previous exposure to safety or system engineering is a plus, but technical curiosity and critical thinking are more important than direct experience.
- Familiarity with CENELEC and UNISIG standards is a strong asset.
- System-level understanding and the ability to think in degraded scenarios.
- Analytical mindset and ability to understand the impact of safety decisions across disciplines.
- Natural safety-oriented mindset (always looking both ways before crossing).
- Proactive, structured, and pragmatic — no over-safety, just the right level of assurance.
- Curious and open-minded, able to navigate across technical topics and teams.
- Strong system thinking and ability to take a step back from technical details to see the big picture.
- English fluency required.
- French is a plus.
- You enjoy making connections across disciplines to understand how things work together.
- You like anticipating problems, thinking in terms of “what if” and managing risks proactively.
- You value purpose-driven engineering, where safety has a direct impact on the real world.
