We are VIB. VIB is a life sciences research institute funded by the Flemish government. We work in close partnership with five Flemish universities – Ghent University, KU Leuven, University of Antwerp, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Hasselt University. Our dedicated Innovation & Business team translates VIB’s scientific results into pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial applications. Since its foundation in 1996, we have created 30 start-up companies. The link between basic research and valorization has made VIB a catalyst for the ever-growing biotech hotspot in Flanders.

The VIB Communications team coordinates communications strategy and ensures the global visibility of the institute’s successes and activities. Currently, we are looking for an experienced Science CommunicationsExpert to drive strategic communication plans for the three neuroscience-related VIB research centers located in Leuven and Antwerp.

What You’ll Do

• Supporting and executing strategic communication plans to better position VIB as a world leader in life sciences, and more specifically neuroscience
• Liaising with the VIB scientists at the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research, the VIB-UAntwerp Center for Molecular Neurology, and NeuroElectronics Research Flanders on their latest scientific findings and feeding this content into VIB’s general communication strategy
• Devising and producing proactive campaigns to target audiences relevant to VIB’s research themes and life sciences industry audiences
• Developing and editing communication materials (news releases, presentations, articles, brochures, social media posts) on VIB’s research for media, reports, newsletters, website, and social platforms.
• Coordinating press releases on the research of VIB’s neuroscience centers and their partnerships
• Maintain VIB’s relations with local, national, and international stakeholders, including funding agencies, patient organizations, scientific collaborators, and the press.
  
  

Who You Are

• Background in life sciences and the ability to deep-dive into scientific content, a Ph.D. is not required but an important plus
• Interest in neuroscience and the brain
• Experience in strategic communication and in-depth knowledge of the life sciences and academic communications landscape
• Experience in an academic or scientific organization is an asset
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Dutch and English)
• A real team player passionate about putting the spotlight on the researchers in the VIB community
