We’re looking for a professional to strengthen PwC’s internal Compliance & Independence team.
Audit Regulation and PwC network policies set out rules to be applied when providing services and entering into collaborative relationships with other parties. Our Compliance and Independence team provides advice to engagement teams, clearances of proposed projects and monitors application of PwC standards. Whilst the regulatory and policy environment is increasingly complex, our business is also transforming itself to an increasingly digital and software driven firm. To be able to support our business we are seeking a person to take on a range of tasks in our internal Independence & Compliance team, supporting our Independence & Compliance Manager.
What you’ll learn and do
Your role will be:
International independence assessments
You will coordinate data gathering and analyse historical and ongoing PwC engagements, and other relationships such as vendors and collaborative relationships to identify potential conflicts of interest with proposed xborder group and local audit missions. This analysis will be conducted with reference to PwC policy and guidance and the Belgian Companies’ Code
Identifying and implementing process efficiencies where possible
Providing advice to Belgian engagement teams on the re-scoping and where necessary exiting of existing services
Once you are trained participate in an international network of such specialists, potentially going on to serve audit teams in multiple countries and jurisdictions
Joint business relationships
Advise engagement teams on the application of rules and policies with regards to joint business relationships
Analyse all firm proposed relationships with third parties setting out the grounds of their permissibility
Monitor the correct application of Joint Business Relationships approvals and continuing permissibility of relationships during their life cycle, including where necessary some administrative follow up
Train users and ensure the correct use of specific authorisation systems
Once trained participate in an international network of Joint Business Relationships specialists, potentially going on to serve teams in multiple countries and jurisdictions, depending on the track record built up
Digital offerings
Assessing the compliance of new Digital offerings and services
Ensuring independence controls with regards to Digital Offerings are appropriately applied
Who you are
You have a Masters degree (preference for Law or Commercial Engineering) and initial experience in compliance, preferably within the audit industry
You have a natural affinity with complex regulation and policies and how to translate them into the business environment.
You are not afraid to read for yourself and master both law and complex guidance
You are able to clearly articulate why something is allowed or is not - you are able to succinctly define issues and find practical ways to resolve them
You do not cut corners - you understand that in compliance we have to respond fast under commercial pressure, but what we say has to be right
You are able to facilitate authorisation processes, but you are also able to say no, when necessary
You are able to step back, see the bigger picture and ask yourself, “is this wise?”
You are able to integrate quickly into a new and changing environment
You create positive relationships beyond your own immediate team and colleagues and quickly understand who is who
You are flexible enough to take on extra tasks outside your own area of speciality when the need arises
Excellent written and spoken English is a requirement
The following would be an advantage, but not a must:
Initial experience in any of the following domains: external or internal audit, a BIG 4 Risk & Quality, Independence or National Office Function; Tax consultancy background
Strong written and spoken French and Dutch
