Position Summary: Senior Security Engineer

Sony R&D Lab Brussels provides offensive security services to Sony worldwide business units since 2011. We are testing most of the Sony consumer electronics and professional devices as well as online services. Many of the products listed on a www.sony.com went through our lab.

We have a strong team of offensive security researchers performing software attacks, hunting for vulnerabilities and supporting development teams with mitigations.

We are looking for an experienced security engineer involved in various security projects. The main responsibility of the candidate will be collaboration with the development teams in Sony helping them building security to their products. The candidate will need to assess security posture of the development teams, identify gaps and support the teams addressing the gaps by implementing security best practices defined by Sony.

Job responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance to Sony security policies, standards, and best practices
  • Conduct a gap analysis between the relevant industry security processes and the ones applied in Sony and provide feedback to Sony governance team
  • Review and feedback on security requirements from business units
  • Conduct security architecture reviews (threat modelling) and makes recommendations. Be prepared to take a lead and/or coach where needed
  • Conduct (or closely follow up on a progress of) application security code review and/or pen-testing activities
  • Support in setting up a security tooling framework as a part of the dev team CI
  • Provide a strategic view on how to improve security posture of a given team based on the collaboration with it
  • Collaborate with other security specialists within Sony

Job Start and Duration

The position will start from the April 2022. We are interested in both permanent and temporary contracts. In the latter case we offer a 12-months contract with possibility to extend in case if both parties are happy with the performance.

Profile

The candidate needs to have the following profile / experience:

  • Proven hands-on experience as an engineer, a developer or a tester in several security related projects
  • Understanding of and experience with secure development lifecycle
  • Understanding and usage of threat modelling
  • Risk assessment experience
  • Ability of making security architecture decisions
  • Understanding of common software security issues and remediation techniques
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies in the security industry
  • Experience with Linux and/or Windows and its internals
  • Understanding of embedded system security
  • Fluent English
  • Excellent customer facing skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly on technical issues depending on the audience
  • Capability of teaching and guiding development teams

The following additional qualifications are desirable:

  • Experience as a technical team lead for security related projects
  • Experience in security vulnerability research or pen-testing
  • Understanding of web application technologies and cloud security
  • Possession of security certifications

Sony R&D Center Europe Brussels Laboratory

Sony R&D Center Europe Brussels Laboratory is part of Sony Corporation and provides different kinds of services to Sony business units.

We are located near Brussels, Belgium. It takes 45 minutes to reach by train from Brussels Midi (Eurostar / Thalys terminal) and 5 minutes by shuttle bus from Brussels Airport.

The development group is international, and the working language is English.
