Owens Corning Europe’s Composites business is one of Owens Corning’s highest-focus businesses. It is also
the most complex and exciting platform with people, products and operations across all Europe and the larger OC
global network.
The purpose of the position is, in cooperation with the Owens Corning Corporate Sustainability Team,
to support delivery of the sustainability strategy in EU Composite and Coated Wovens by identifying, developing and growing strategic partnerships internally and externally. The job incumbent works closely with the EU Insulation Sustainability leader role & plays an active role in the EU Sustainability Council to capture the market-facing synergies in both buildings and industrial markets in the EU region.
The Sustainability Leader (SL) is responsible for keeping the company up to date on sustainability conformity toward present and future sustainability demands connected to the respective business strategies & deliverables. The work involves promoting sustainability to our customers, markets & industry partners, focusing on the product’s sustainability performance.
The SL is furthermore accountable to, in cooperation with Marketing & Communications, strengthen the company’s green brand by communicating the sustainability performance in a trustworthy manner internally as well as externally.
Your responsibilities
Responsible for strategic sustainability work within Owens Corning Composite and Coated Wovens business in Europe through
- work with business stakeholders to identify, develop and execute high-impact business suitability strategy in alignment with business priority, market legislation trend and OC corporate sustainability strategy
- collaborate with all necessary internal/external experts to develop a full value chain decarbonization and circular economy roadmap for business/operations areas of responsibility.
- collaborate with all necessary internal/external experts to develop and maintain the priority list to help direct and prioritize resources requested/needed to satisfy customer requests for sustainability data/analysis/project work. Actively participate in customer engagements as needed/requested by the sales team.
- long-term and short-term target setting and securing critical activities to be included in relevant action plans
- coordination of sustainability activities in accordance with decisions from, and in cooperation with, OC Corporate Sustainability Team and business stakeholders.
- promote, create and coordinate sustainability network
- between the different business units in the EU region and with global team.
- Being an active member in EU Sustainability Council in shaping and ensuring the strategic objectives of EU sustainability cross all businesses and achieving strategic advantage through increased sustainability
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities to commercialize technology to achieve strategic advantage through increased sustainability initiatives
- Support definition of value creation streams with marketing team to contribute enhancing margin through value pricing, justifying investment in sustainability
Responsible for sustainability related assessments of products and operations within Owens Corning Composite and Coated Wovens business in Europe through
- keeping up to date with existing and coming legislation, standards and voluntary requirements related to product sustainability performance including health aspects
- initiation of programs needed to establish and strengthen OC Europe sustainability product performance in the responsible businesses
- identification and proposal of best practice in Composite and Coated Wovens Europe to OC Corporate Sustainability Team on sustainability related processes
- securing sustainability administration and documentation like for example LCA and EPD, assessment systems, content declarations and statements
- Support identification of EU funding scheme in sustainability where OC can be eligible to
Responsible for environmental/sustainability communication within Owens Corning Composite and Coated Wovens Europe, in cooperation with Marketing & Communication, through
- building and developing a sustainability communication strategy and process to strengthen the company sustainability image and support sustainable growth
- building trust among stakeholders by providing suitable fact-based information on sustainability for communication purposes
- promote OC activities in EU sustainability congress, expert conference, digital media
- leading the reporting work related to the role according to needs in the yearly Owens Corning sustainability report
Responsible for business intelligence, networking and lobbying in the sustainability area through
- participation, as OC Composite and Coated Wovens business Europe representative, in relevant trade associations
- organize lobbying with key decision maker to represent OC’s industrial perspective to drive agenda forward
- understand the threat and opportunity coming from evolving legislation or megatrends to feed subsequent functional strategy (e.g. Operations, Sales & Marketing, sourcing)
- providing internal sustainability network and trainings to inspire and increase the sustainability awareness and general expertise in the organization
Who are you?
Knowledge
- Degree qualified in an environmental or sustainability related discipline.
- Experience in multi-national, manufacturing environment in a corporate setting.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (IEMA, CIWM,) is a plus.
- Knowledge and understanding of EU sustainability trend and green deal is preferred.
- Strong proven experience of delivering and implementing sustainability projects
