Today Lawter is a supplier to the graphics industry, adhesives, specialty coatings, aroma chemicals and the synthetic rubber industry. Lawter operates in more than 20 countries with 8 production centers and 5 technology centers.


For its headquarters in Europe (Kallo), Lawter is looking for a:


GLOBAL DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS M/V


You lead the following departments:

    • Global Operations department
    • Global Projects and Process Department
    • Global Q&EHS department
    • Global Product Safety and Regulatory Compliance department

General duties and responsibilities:

  • You serve as a member of the Lawter Senior Leadership Team (SLT) upon approval of the CSC
  • You are a self-disciplined leader who sets the example for your team and the company 24/7
  • You adhere to all company policies and procedures and ensure that all your direct reports do the same. You hold the team accountable.
  • Your promote safety culture by leading and participating in various safety initiatives within the organization.

General Duties Operations:

  • You maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following and enforcing targets, standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. You support the global Q&EHS manager in targets setting, audit scheme and enforcement.
  • You set annual global targets for the Operations department. Support regional operations manager in their target setting. You coordinate and support the communication and cooperation between the manufacturing sites. Divide the work, expertise and subjects on a strategic basis.
  • You lead approximately 425 person Global manufacturing organization supporting the Ink and Adhesive Resins business through cost effective and quality driven manufacturing for the Inks and Adhesive business. You assume direct responsibility for 7 regional Operations managers.
  • You contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends
  • You prepare an annual spending budget and support and control the regional spending budget with a total spending value of about 50 MMUSD;
  • You prepare an annual CapEx with an average budget of about 4.5 MMUSD. And control a correct execution of the CapEx projects, within budget and timing.
  • You communicate customer issues with operations team and devise ways of improving the customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints
  • You work closely with Site Leadership Teamto set and/or implement policies, procedures and systems and to follow through with implementation.

General duties Global Process and project management department

  • You leas 2 employees in the Global Process and project management department.
  • You maintain a system of global best practices and global standards
  • You coordinate and execute the CapEx program. Local project management support of the local sites.
  • You maintain global DeltaV system

General duties Q&EHS department:

  • You lead the global Q&EHS manager
  • You support the QEHS manager in managing the implementation and development of EHS global policies and systems to ensure the company meets the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements while supporting the direction of the business.
  • You support to audit effectiveness of policies and regulatory compliance at all locations and collaborate on continuous improvement and EHS aligned culture change.
  • You lead the efforts within to ensure all operations are compliant with legislation, data collection and communication
  • You support to manage the implementation of QEHS Management improvement Systems and maintain programs, standards and systems such as 5S , ISO 9000,14001 and 18001

General duties Product Safety & regulatory compliance:

  • You lead the global PS&RC manager and a department of four employees
  • You have a basic knowledge of PS&RC standards like FDA, Bfr, plastics directive, REACH etc
  • You protect the IP by controlling the release of IP sensitive regulatory information and management of a proper NDA system.
  • You support the maintenance of a proper MSDS system and customer communication
  • You control and safeguard the compliance with local, regional and global legislation on product safety.

Education/experience/training/qualifications:

  • 10+ years of Technical/Manufacturing/Process Management leadership experience
  • Highly organized with the ability to complete multi-tasks in a timely manner.
  • Possess a high level of integrity and positive working attitude.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Team player, able to work cross functionally
  • BS or Equivalent in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering required. Masters or equivalent desired.

Working conditions or restrictions:

  • Manufacturing environment and office environment.
  • Heavy travel required between manufacturing locations and required meetings.

Language skills:

  • Advanced English oral and written communication skills are required. With the ability to gather, assimilate and communicate technical knowledge across a number of levels in the business.

Other skills and abilities:

  • Mathematical skills, including basic math skills, problem solving and variances.
  • Ability to define problems, identify solutions and follow through to completion.

  • Strong MSOffice capabilities.
  • Ability to lead multifunctional and multicultural teams toward a common goal through to completion in an urgent manner.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to improve those skills throughout direct organization.
  • You must be ambitious, energetic, diligent, tenacious, and self-motivated.
  • Must have strong organizational, problem solving and conflict management skills.
