Intro
The International Department of Belgian Red Cross - Flanders (BRC-Fl) works on development cooperation and emergency response. It manages international projects in the area of first aid, blood banking, hygiene promotion and logistical distributions, mainly in Africa.
Belgian Red Cross - Flanders aims to increase the impact of its humanitarian response by an expertise-driven approach, allowing for specialisation and scale advantage. This encompasses primary research, the development/detection of evidence-based guidelines, and designing improved delivery mechanisms in these fields.
We are looking for a Head of Expertise and Program Design to lead and structure:
- Content development in the 4 chosen areas of expertise
- Primary research where scientific evidence is lacking
- KPI-design for monitoring
The Head of Expertise and Program Design will lead and mentor a team of 4-5 people, and works closely and collegially together with the Head of International Programs (responsible for the delivery of the projects) and the Manager of CEBaP (Center for Evidence-Based practice).
You are based in Mechelen and will travel occasionally to the project countries.
What will you do?
You work with the team of Expertise and Program Design to:
- Stay on top of the latest scientific developments in the field;
- Transform research results into actionable insights;
- Design and develop new program content and optimize existing ones;
- Continuously optimize our expertise in order to increase the success and impact of BRC-Fl’s international programs;
- Determine success metrics and determine what metrics are needed to make informed decisions about current products and possible future products;
- You coach and mentor the team members.
Who are you?
- You have a PhD-degree in one of the quantitative sciences; experience in empirical research is an asset;
- You enjoy keeping abreast of new scientific developments / relevant scientific literature;
- You value evidence-based practice and are convinced of the superiority of the scientific method for acquiring and evaluating knowledge / the programs we develop;
- You communicate well to your colleagues and the organization at large;
- You enjoy developing young talent and have experience in managing a team;
- You have a healthy portion of common sense, a flexible and solution-focused mind;
- You are fluent in Dutch and English. French and Spanish are an asset.
