Job Summary

As Junior researcher in colloid chemistry you are responsible for:
  • Formulating stable dispersions (pigment, fillers…), emulsions according to the need of your internal customers (project leaders from the different business units).
  • Building knowledge on colloid systems, formulation, new raw materials and dispersion processes.
  • Building knowledge on statistical tools (DoE, Machine Learning, …)
  • Translating functional and regulatory requirements into an experimental plan that takes the time constraints and allocated resources into account.
  • Designing and executing innovative experiments, in co-operation with a team of lab skilled colleagues.
  • Establishing the best and most cost effective process for each formulation.
  • Delivering upscalable formulations by communicating back and forth with the upscaling team.
  • Organizing the daily tasks of the laboratory technicians.
  • Organising, reporting and sharing the know-how you acquired to the different stakeholders (team, project managers)
  • Ensuring that the safety and health aspects of your experiments are taken care of.
  • Flexibly managing different projects across the various competence groups (synthesis, analysis, upscaling, production, IP...) in parallel and according to priorities.

Profile

  • You have a master degree (or equivalent) in chemistry or material science with focus on colloid chemistry, physical chemistry or nanotechnology. Experience with surface/interface chemistry, design of experiments and data analysis is a plus.
  • You are eager to acquire different lab techniques, knowledge and experience over specific technologies and processes to produce colloids and nanomaterials.
  • You have strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • You thrive working/are able to work in a multidisciplinary environment and actively develops professional partnerships.
  • You have a hands-on mindset and like to do some lab-work.
  • You are a good organizer
  • You are a good communicator.
  • You are able to work in an accurate and systematic way, taking into account quality and safety
  • You are a good teamplayer and also able, at the same time, to work independently.
  • You are flexible and able to manage different priorities.
  • You are self-motivated, result and customer oriented.
  • You have a pro-active mindset
  • You speak fluent Dutch and English or are willing to learn to speak Dutch.
  • You are willing to travel occasionally for short periods ( +/- 10%).
