Legal & Contract Manager

At the Tubize and Herstal sites

As Legal & Contract Manager, you will provide general legal advice to the Belgian office of Thales with a strong focus on commercial and public procurement contracts.The aim of the job is to secure the rights and interests of the company, reducing potential exposure and preventing legal actions. The legal counsel works closely with Thales Belgium’s Legal & Contracts Director.

Your permanent office will be located in Tubize with occasional visits to Herstal site

In Tubize, you will join more than 250 colleagues recognized by domestic and international partners for expertise on products such as Radio Frequency (RF) Products, C4ISR, Crypto Global Solution, MACS (Aeronautical Intercom) and many others.

In Herstal, you will join more than 150 colleagues specialized in the design, development, production and supply of weapon systems and ammunitions. With the Guided Rocket in the portfolio additional market’s segments are now addressed like Ground-to-Ground applications or Counter-UAS.

Your mission

  • Drafting, reviewing, amending and negotiating (general) commercial contracts (e.g. procurement and supplier contracts, service agreements, letters of intent, MOU, NDA, etc…) and company templates (Sales & Purchase T&Cs,)
  • Understand and manage complex supply chains from a contractual perspective upstream and downstream
  • Ensure that contractual, commercial and technical risks (ability to understand technical and commercial aspects of contracts) to the business are minimized and the company’s operating needs are met all along a project (from bid phase to contract performance)
  • Advising on public tenders and giving legal assistance to the bid team in preparation of their offer
  • Contract management: legal support during the execution phase of major projects, in close co-operation with the project managers;
  • Assist the Legal & Contracts Director in compliance matters
  • Give basic legal and compliance training to your internal clients
We are looking forward to

  • You are a Belgian trained lawyer
  • You have 10 to 12 years experience in commercial and public procurement law in an international (technology) company or in a law firm and have been exposed to both domestic and international commercial contracts
  • Knowledge of IT law (cybersecurity, data protection) will be considered as an asset
  • Relevant contract negotiation and drafting skills; excellent communication skills and writing abilities
  • You are a team player and you communicate very easily and efficiently with your colleagues, yet you are able to work independently and duly manage your workload and priorities
  • You are approachable, pragmatic and creative
  • Fluent in French, Dutch and English
  • A good IT knowledge is appreciated
