If so, this role could be an ideal opportunity to explore! We are looking to recruit a Medical Director, Global Medical Affairs – Pneumococcal Vaccines.
Global Medical Affairs (GMA) facilitates the understanding of the value of our vaccines, the science behind them and the public health impact they can offer by developing and executing global scientific and access strategies, based on evidence gaps identified and insights gathered from scientific and patient communities.
The GMA team is a dynamic, inclusive and diverse group of dedicated medical affairs professionals who are passionate and proud about what they do and the impact their work makes to patients, HCPs, public health and colleagues around the world.
In this role as a Medical Director you:
- provide global medical affairs leadership with a focus on the US and other identified key markets.
- are responsible for the development and implementation of the GMA Strategy in close collaboration with countries in line with the global asset strategy.
- serve as the primary point of contact externally and internally for scientific and medical questions related to the vaccine(s) and projects in scope.
- are responsible for the performance and deliverables of the Global Medical Asset Team (GMAT) and providing patient focused, medical expertise to cross-functional groups necessary to support the global strategy.
- are responsible for the development and execution of the evidence generation plan and strategic publication planning in line with the global strategy and priorities.
- are accountable for gathering and bringing back the medical insights to inform the Life-cycle Management plans and the overall business strategy.
- are accountable for the planning and implementation of scientific engagement plans and activities globally for the vaccine(s) and projects of responsibility, and establish and maintain a strong professional relationship with relevant external experts, policy makers, patient organizations and key scientific organizations.
- are a role model of the GSK values and expectations, and champion medical governance in both scientific engagement and promotional activities, in alignment with GSK IPT priorities
- In line with the global strategy, you lead the building and execution of the GMA strategy and operational plans for the vaccine(s) and project of responsibility in close collaboration with the key LOCs and regional partners.
- You are responsible for working in partnership with clinical development, value evidence, epidemiology teams at central and local/regional levels, to optimize the integrated evidence plan in support of a reimbursable file and life cycle strategy.
- You develop and lead the execution of the strategic External Expert-Engagement plan.
- You drive the medical communication strategy for the given vaccine(s) including long term communication / publication planning of relevant new data.
- You are accountable for representing the Medical voice into the Vaccine Commercialization Teams (VCTs) and/or Vaccine Development Teams (VDTs), including ensuring insights from regions and LOCs and key external stakeholders (vaccine recipients, physicians, payers, regulators).
- You monitor external independent evidence generation and research activities and provide insights on the strategically relevant elements to the relevant teams.
- You work to identify the content need of the key LOCs and develop the materials that will address these needs in high quality, on time and within budget.
- You are accountable for ensuring plans and activities of the assigned vaccine are implemented in a manner that is compliant with Scientific Engagement principles, GSK’s Code of Practice and GSK values.
- You ensure that all communications are scientifically accurate, balanced, remain aligned with product strategy, and compliant to applicable laws and regulations.
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- MD, PhD, PharmD, Master in life sciences/Public Health
- 10+ years track record in medical affairs at International or Regional/Country level with demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of public health systems, regulatory/ market access and reimbursement archetypes
- Previous experience working in the Vaccines Therapeutic Area at Local, Regional or Global level
- Launch, life cycle management and early development experience
- Proven track record of agility and high-performance delivery in Medical Affairs or R&D. Skilled at simultaneous consideration of scientific data and practical healthcare delivery from diverse health systems to optimise medical implementation of innovation
- Excellent communication and networking skills, ability to be a GSK spokesperson across diverse platforms and audiences
- Strong analytical skills to be able to assess and interpret complex scientific data and to take a solid fact-based position
- Experience with review & approval processes in a highly regulated setting
- Strong understanding and track record of adherence to the ethical, regulatory, compliance and legal framework which underpins all interactions with the external environment
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
- Previous experience in leading/working in matrix teams
- Advocacy and experience and interaction with government officials
- Ability to anticipate, manage ambiguity, evaluate benefit and risk and take appropriate accountability for decision making
