(Senior) Scientist for Physical/Analytical Testing of Novel Drug Delivery Modalities

Job Description

Within Janssen Research & Development, a member of Johnson & Johnson’s Family of Companies, we are recruiting a Scientist/Senior Scientist in Beerse, Belgium, to support our growing need for the physical/analytical characterization of novel modalities intended for advanced drug delivery.

Janssen Research & Development develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. R&D development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, pulmonary hypertension and reproductive medicine. The successful candidate will be employed in our Analytical Development (AD) organization, responsible for all analytical activities in CMC (Chemistry Manufacturing & Controls) development.

The (senior) scientist will join the Advanced Material Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group within AD. AMCI is an international and diverse team of scientists performing advanced analytical characterization of pharmaceutical products and leading global analytical investigations for the commercial product portfolio and for the Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) organization of Janssen R&D. The AMCI group consists of different analytical centers of excellence such as primary packaging and combination products, colloidal sciences, rheology, particle identification, particle and powder characterization, metal testing, NMR, excipient & polymer characterization, and oligonucleotide & peptide analytics.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated (senior-) scientist to join our team. For this laboratory-based position, you will work together with internal and external specialists in drug product development and analytical development teams to find innovative solutions for in-depth characterization for new modalities/drug delivery platforms supporting combination products such as long acting injectables, oligonucleotides and liposomes from the perspective of understanding the physical properties of the products and the interactions between the devices and drug product. The position is based in our Europe R&D Site in Antwerp, Belgium.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strengthen the colloidal science & combination products team in the AMCI group in Beerse.
  • Design, lead and perform analytical characterization work with the highest scientific standards.
  • Apply state-of–the art scientific knowledge to ensure high quality of the delivered results.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team of scientists and show ability to learn and explore new techniques.
  • Support scientifically projects from early to late development phase
  • Act quickly and provide expertise and solutions
  • Develop test methods, provide documentation and write scientific reports.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, GMP and safety.
  • Stay up to date with the scientific literature in the pharmaceutical analysis field
Qualifications
  • Doctorate preferably in Mechanical/Chemical engineering/Physics/Analytical chemistry or any other related fields. Relevant experience is an asset.
  • Expertise with colloidal science/chemistry with an emphasis on nanosuspension, liposomes and peptide is an advantage
  • Experience with related different advanced analytical techniques such as laser diffraction, light scattering, and advanced imaging techniques such as X-ray tomography and atomic force microscopy are a plus
  • Expertise with on packaging/combination products and devices mainly focused on analytical testing and on the interaction between drug product and the device, such as container closure integrity testing / mechanical testing is a plus
  • Efficient, flexible, dynamic, results and performance driven
  • Demonstrate capabilities in strategic thinking
  • Innovative solutions/technical skills
  • Strong track record of scientific contributions including peer reviewed publications, or patents, or presentations at major international meetings is considered a plus.
  • Good project management and communication skills.
  • Good English scientific skills, both written and spoken
