Within the UCB Corporate Development & Finance team, the BD, M&A and Alliance Management & Integration departmentis currently looking for a Late-Stage Search & Evaluation Lead for Neurologyto bebased in our HQ, Brussels,Belgium orMonheim,Germany orin Slough, UK.

The Business Development (BD), Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and Alliance and Integration Management (A&IM) team is part of the Corporate Development & Finance unit, a global function within UCB.

The mission of the BD, M&A, A&IM team is to identify and execute external growth initiatives that address UCB’s strategic priorities.

The key activities of the team are the identification, evaluation, structuring, negotiation and execution of strategic transactions with external partners and the subsequent management of alliances.

You will contribute by:

  • Scouting: use his/her network and competitive intelligence sources to identify and actively monitor all relevant external clinical- and commercial-stage assets within therapeutic areas or patient populations of interest to UCB; attend all relevant symposiums and industry events and maintain close contact with selected companies.
  • Screening: triage and prioritize potential clinical and commercial-stage asset opportunities, for presentation to the UCB Neurology Partnering Group.
  • Evaluation: evaluate available clinical information, establish patient value proposition, and clarify strategic fit and expected benefit for UCB, for all clinical- and commercial-stage assets selected for preliminary evaluation.

The role requires the application of scouting, clinical, regulatory and market-access expertise, as well as pharmaceutical business insight and industry knowledge, to strengthen and expand the BD, M&A and A&IM team’s ability to identify, screen and evaluate clinical- and commercial-stage assets of interest to UCB.

The incumbent will maintain close relationships and coordinate with the Neurology Patient Value Unit, Early Solutions, as well as the Head of BD Neurology and members of the Transactions Team, who are responsible for managing and leading transactions projects, along UCB’s End-to-End Transactions Governance process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the scouting, identification and active monitoring of clinical- and commercial-stage assets (therapeutic, diagnostic and digital) within therapeutic areas or patient populations of interest to UCB, consistent with UCB’s Corporate and Patient Value Unit strategies, as well as BD/M&A objectives.
  • Facilitate the screening and triaging for further evaluation of clinical- and commercial-stage assets, where applicable, via the UCB Neurology Partnering Group.
  • Evaluate all available clinical information (e.g. clinical development plans and clinical study data), establish patient value proposition, and clarify strategic fit and expected benefit for UCB, for all clinical- and commercial-stage assets selected for preliminary evaluation.
  • Work in close collaboration with, and under the oversight of, the Head of BD Neurology to ensure all scouting, screening, and evaluation activities remain consistent with UCB’s Corporate and Patient Value Unit strategies, and BD/M&A objectives.
  • Provide expert clinical and commercial support for diligence exercises led by Transactions Team members, for proposed transactions involving clinical- or commercial-stage assets.
  • Work in collaboration with clinical and commercial colleagues, to co-ordinate, establish, challenge and fine-tune clinical and commercial assumptions in support of the diligence and valuation of clinical- or commercial-stage assets.

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

  • University degree (BS or equivalent) / Post-graduate education (MD/PhD or equivalent)
  • Extensive (> 10yrs) medical or clinical experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledge of Neurology disease states, patient populations, and market environment
  • Language: Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally both with external parties representing UCB and with Senior Executives within UCB.
  • Ability to work in a complex matrix environment and interface with all levels of the organization.
  • Able to work collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional and multi-cultural teams.
  • Sound judgement and recommendation-making skills.
  • Outstanding capabilities in communication including presentations, building trustful and sustainable internal and external relationships, and negotiation.
  • High level of integrity, honesty, initiative and resilience.
