The UI Designer role is a unique opportunity to
Act as a user-centered design expert, and make sure that we deliver products with a great user experience (UX). For new products, you review concepts and design user interface specs. For existing products, you identify the UX problems through objective research, propose solutions and follow up their implementation.
The primary objective is product usefulness and usability: To make sure that our users are able to actually complete the tasks that our products are intended for, without being confused or slowed down. This should reduce training needs and support calls.
Next to that, in this role you are responsible for making sure the user is delighted and happy to use our products. This will increase customer loyalty to our products and brand.
Your responsibilities as a UI Designer, include:
- Through research in the field, continuously deepen your understanding of our users. Communicate their needs, concerns, capabilities, and limitations to the software development teams. (Eg. Through “Personae”).
- Objectively identify UX issues in our products: By observing real users with our products and analyzing other data sources (eg. Customer support calls).
- Assist the product owner when designing new product concepts. Make paper (or other) prototypes, validate the concepts with users and other stakeholders and suggest improvements.
- Design and refine user interface prototypes from a simple wireframe sketches to a pixel-perfect UI spec. Consider the layout of the presented information, the navigation, the workflow and the user-interaction.
- Help the development team to implement your designs: Prepare the necessary artwork and review the implementation with the team in one or more iterations.
- With your peer UX Designers: Develop a user-centered design process for Esko. Put it in practice and improve continuously. Experiment with modern UX practices. Actively search for better ways to combine UX design with agile software development.
- Help to promote UX awareness in the entire R&D organization. Educate and coach the software development teams on best practices.

We are looking for a professional who:
- Enjoys being creative and innovative
- Is good at conceptual thinking
- Is able to quickly understand customer needs and translate them into actionable deliverables
- Is a team-player
- Is solution oriented and pragmatic
- Has an attitude of continuous learning
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in design, human computer interaction (HCI) or equivalent professional experience
- Experience with designing workflows, interactions and user interfaces for interactive desktop or web applications.
- Knowledge of general design principles and human interface guidelines
- Application & domain knowledge of structural design, pre-media, packaging and large-format printing is a plus
