The Faculty of Economics and Business of KU Leuven has a vacancy at Campus Kulak Kortrijk for a part-time position (10%) as Visiting Professor in the field of sustainability, sustainability reporting, sustainability regulation and the broader ESG (environment - social - governance), and sustainability reality. This guest lecturer position is for 5 years. The assignment mainly involves academic teaching. The Faculty of Economics and Business at KU Leuven Campus Kulak Kortrijk is a dynamic unit providing education in the Bachelor of Business Economics, as well as transfer options in Business Engineering and Business and Information Systems Engineering. Scientific research on the Kortrijk campus is always carried out in close cooperation with the relevant research units in Leuven. Research within our faculty mainly focuses on microeconomics, corporate finance and corporate governance. KU Leuven Campus Kortrijk prides itself on a strong tradition of interdisciplinary research and teaching, and this across multiple faculties. Interdisciplinary research mainly revolves around two central themes: sustainability and artificial intelligence. Moreover, lifelong learning is a central focus at Campus Kulak, thanks to the Postgraduate Center.

Responsibilities

Education

The job assignment for this vacancy mainly involves providing English-language teaching within the field of sustainability. The Visiting Professor for this position is responsible for teaching one course in the Bachelor of the regular program of Business Economics and transfer options Business Engineering and Business and Information Systems Engineering. It concerns an elective course of 3 ECTS(credits) which is taught during the second semester in 20 teaching hours. In addition to this teaching assignment in the regular program, there might also be the possibility to teach some courses at the postgraduate level.


The learning objectives of the course include the following:

  • Defining the concept of sustainability and explaining its increasing importance;
  • Familiarizing the students with the current relevant sustainability frameworks used by organizations;
  • Outlining the main sustainability challenges and opportunities;
  • Presenting some real-life cases in order to turn theory into practice, with the possibility of inviting a guest speaker from the field.


This teaching assignment is carried out in accordance with KU Leuven’s vision of activating, research-oriented and policy-oriented education.

Research and Contributions


The selected candidate is expected to participate in the dissemination of knowledge in academia, for policy, and to society in general. The selected candidate is willing to take on tasks of scholarly, community and internal service. The selected candidate contributes to the academic growth and visibility of the campus, faculty, and KU Leuven in general by co-organizing conferences, workshops, and other events. Active involvement at Campus Kulak is expected.


Profile

The successful candidate:


  • has a solid international scientific reputation;
  • has achieved outstanding research results, and holds a doctoral degree (PhD) (or has a public defense date);
  • possesses an aptitude for providing academic excellence in teaching;
  • considers qualitative teaching to be highly important;
  • is ambitious to have an impact on society and to participate in the broader social debate (e.g. press articles - or interviews) on sustainability, in addition to striving towards academic impact.

The selected candidate will be hired at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on experience and competences, for a period of five years.
