Director – Transformation Lead
GSK has an inspiring ambition: by uniting science, technology and talent we aim to positively impact the health of 2.5 billion people over the next ten years. We will get ahead of disease together with our R&D approach of focusing on the science of the immune system, human genetics and advanced technologies, such as functional genomics and AI/ML.
The R&D Business Transformation Office (BTO) is at the heart of delivering on this exciting ambition. Our goal is to accelerate and embed strategic change by combining our knowledge, network and thriving people to unlock value across the business. As part of a recent comprehensive review of BTO’s capabilities and operating model, we have identified an opportunity to expand our capabilities and we are now looking for four outstanding people (3 Snr Director, 1 Director) to join the team as Transformation Leads.
The Transformation Leads will work alongside our established Delivery Excellence team (comprising project management, change management and process optimization expertise) to shape and deliver priority strategic transformation programs including major integrations, step changes in R&D productivity and organizational change to build world class capabilities. The Transformation Leads will focus predominantly on the upfront shaping and set-up of programmes, working with senior R&D stakeholders and partners in the R&D strategy team to translate strategic priorities and recommendations into a portfolio of transformational change programmes. They will be accountable for shaping those programmes such that they deliver flawlessly in alignment with other R&D business initiatives whilst minimizing distractions from the delivery of the pipeline. The Transformation Leads will be accountable for ensuring that each programme is set up with a clear vision, proposed benefits/KPIs, governance and resourcing plan and as transformation experts, they will be expected to act as an SME within BTO and at times elsewhere in R&D. If this sounds like something you want to be part of then read on …
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Take the lead on building a picture (with input from the other Transformation Leads) of the pan-R&D change landscape for the next 6-12+ months; Use this to provide insight & context to inform new programme set-up and in-flight programme success
- Partner with senior stakeholders to design and shape R&D’s most important transformation programmes which will typically have a high degree of complexity (often spanning multiple functions) and visibility within the company. This could happen in several ways:
- In partnership with the R&D strategy team to ensure a seamless transition from strategic recommendations to flawless execution
- By partnering directly with stakeholders in R&D functions to translate a strategic priority into a transformation programme ready for execution
- When shaping and setting up a programmes:
- Where needed, manage a matrix team of internal or external people (including programme, project and change managers, process optimisation experts) to support the programme shaping and set up
- Ensure all BTO programmes are set up with clear objectives, budget, governance and proposed KPIs / benefits
- Define the people / resource requirements to both shape and deliver the programme flawlessly and ensure those resources (internal or external) are in place when needed; Where external consultants are required, work with stakeholders to define the scope of the engagement and select the best supplier
- At the appropriate point, transition accountability for programme delivery to a transformation delivery director in BTO (or 3rd party if relevant); Continue to provide steering and hold the team to account for delivery excellence, including gathering feedback from stakeholders and keeping them updated on program progress and outcomes
- Act as a thought leader within BTO and more broadly in R&D in areas of expertise (e.g. change management, programme management, business skills), including providing advice to other Transformation Leads in set up of programmes they are accountable for
- Act as an ambassador for BTO, bringing clarity on our vision and value proposition and role modelling consistently strong transformation capabilities with both stakeholders and other BTO colleague
- As needed (depending on demand & resources available), play an active role in the delivery of a programmes (rather than shaping, set up) or provide support to another Transformation Leads in the shaping of a particularly complex / challenging or time sensitive programme
