Backend Developer (C/C++ and Python)

Location: Liège (On-site 4 days/week minimum)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Full-time

Eligibility: Candidates must be based in the EU or a NATO member country

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team working on advanced smart munitions and firing systems. This is a hands-on role where you`ll take part in full development cycles from specifications to integration and validation on cutting-edge real-time systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize embedded software for smart defense systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, particularly hardware engineers, to ensure seamless integration
  • Work with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and low-level programming on microcontrollers
  • Contribute to system validation and debugging across the full project lifecycle
  • Ensure code quality through rigorous testing, peer reviews, and Agile practices
Required Skills & Experience

  • Masters degree in Software Engineering, Electronics, or related field
  • 3 to 10 years of professional experience in embedded systems development
  • Proficiency in C and Python
  • Solid understanding of RTOS and embedded microcontrollers
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C
  • Strong team spirit, proactive mindset, and comfort working in Agile environments
  • Fluent English (written and spoken)
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the defense, aerospace, or automotive industries is highly valued
