Job Purpose and Impact

The global Core R&D organization provides scientific experts and capabilities to support innovation strategies and daily operations of businesses and functions within Cargill. Among the different Core R&D teams, the Chemical Characterization team provides advanced analytical solutions to drive new research and innovation, and to support functions such as quality assurance, customer support, or regulatory affairs.

Currently, the Chemical Characterization team is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated analytical scientist (professional) to support the team in the EMEA region, based at the European R&D center in Vilvoorde, Belgium. When successful, the bio-analytical scientist will conduct established chemical analyses using a wide variety of laboratory instrumentation (e.g. HPLC, LC/HRMS, GC, GC/HRMS, HPIC, SEC) and complex analytical methods to identify and quantify components of biological nature and other samples in support of research and development activities. The analytical scientist will also support the development and application of new analytical methods and technologies that help to drive the development of new products and improved processes for the food, feed, and industrial segments.

Key Accountabilities
  • Use a variety of laboratory instrumentation and complex analytical methods to isolate, identify and quantify components of biological matrices and other samples.
  • Identify and provide resolution in analytical instrumentation troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Execute sample loading, processing and chromatographic trouble shooting and effectively communicate results to diverse scientific teams.
  • Prepare analytical samples, standards, and properly disposes of waste according to guidelines in a high safety-focused environment.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent by experience
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience
  • Strong technical mindset and passion for analytical instrumentation
  • Proficient in analytical method development and validation
  • Other minimum qualifications may apply
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a chemical/biochemical field or equivalent by experience
  • Proficient in chromatography theory and practice
  • Knowledge on high-resolution mass spectrometry is a plus
  • Knowledge on chromatography data acquisition software (Chromeleon, MassHunter, Empower, MassLynx, and/or Unify) is a plus
  • Knowledge on GLP, QC, or LIMS is a plus
