Job Summary

The Director, Global Sourcing Europe is responsible for setting strategic direction and executing on sourcing initiatives in the European region, spend accountability: approx. $500 million annual.

Responsibilities:

  • Defines and presents Regional/Global sourcing strategies for buy-sell categories to Executive Leadership in Avantor
  • Executes global sourcing strategies, serves as project champion globally where applicable – provides clear commercial direction
  • Ensures that sourcing strategies are aligned with the Global Lab Products, Supply Chain, Sales teams, Business Units and the Corporate Functions.
  • Accountable for managing cost and pricing management versus prior year baseline
  • Conducts regular strategy and project execution reviews with Sourcing peers and the respective Business/Functional leaders.
  • Is responsible for leading key projects and coordinating with Avantor Business stakeholders and managing expectations.
  • Accountable for spend: ~$500 million/year in Europe across diverse products distributed throughout the regions and private label products manufactured by third parties
  • Owns the rolling 24-month strategic category project pipeline plan including Contribution to Gross Profit, DPO, COGS
  • Responsible for contracting respective purchases under the direction of the SVP Global Sourcing and in line with Avantor Delegation of Authority guidelines.
  • Works closely with the counterparts in the Internal and External supply chain to ensure lowest Total Cost of Ownership for logistics solutions that are fit for use
  • Accountable for planning, timing, launching and executing RFQ’s to optimize cost positions and leverage volumes for advantageous pricing across the regions
Direct reports:
Approx. 3-4 direct reports

Education:

  • B.Sc. or comparable education, post graduate MSc / MBA desired – alternatively strong commercial candidates with >10 years international sourcing or strategy background
  • Professional Procurement certification preferred
  • Official Lean/Six Sigma education (strongly desired) Green or Black Belt
Background/track record:

  • Commercial / procurement experience > 10 years with full spend accountability and demonstrated team leadership experience – international logistics background (must)
  • Track record required as successful leader of cross-functional international sourcing/commercial projects with full end to end project responsibility
  • Track record required in taking costs out – preferably in a turnaround environment
  • Mergers & Acquisitions Sourcing Integration experience on an international level preferred
  • Background/technical understanding in regulated industries preferred
  • Matrixed international project responsibility

  • Ability and track record of managing complex sourcing/procurement projects

  • Proven contracting and contract negotiation/management skills
  • End to end process focused, creates structure where needed, excellent prioritization skills
  • Fluent English communication skills (must), 2nd language preferred
  • International background & willingness to travel
  • Location flexible, work environment is home and/or office setting
