Summary

In the global framework of the Renal Solution Product development, under appropriate direction of the Technical Leader (TL) and/or Senior Design Leader (Sr. DL), the incumbent oversees engineering work requiring appropriate application/use of standard techniques, tools, methodologies and procedures.

Based on project’s needs, the intervention mode of the incumbent will range from punctual on-demand interventions (ex: technical documents edition, test campaign definition & supervision) to longer term integration within a project team (ex: acting as an Jr. DL on component design activities of limited level of complexity or span).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of the TL and/or Sr. DL, execute design development activities on container components (geometry/material/process) by conducting appropriate studies & data analysis, editing technical documentation, supervising samples preparation & related test campaign execution.
  • Based on project needs, be in support to NPD activities related to components design (system requirements definition, concept selection & prototyping, product/system interface, dFMEA, functional performance evaluation, design space definition, specifications/BoM/drawings creation & issuance, specific test method development, verification studies, design transfer).
  • When needed, under direction of the TL or Sr. DL, organize and coordinate activities involving other project stakeholders (different functions, different sites) to respect overall project schedule. As an example, in close collaboration with the Lead Technical Project Integrator (LTPI), follow sample production in plants and their logistics, as well as test campaign in global laboratories.
  • Apply state of the art Engineering tools/methodologies/principles (sampling plan & study layout definition, data statistical analysis, mechanical design principles,..) to design product sub-system according to applicable Product Development Process and design control procedures. Design engineering studies, collect data, interpret results and provide conclusions in terms of product design for “form, fit & function”.
  • Assist TL and/or Sr. DL in the preparation/presentation of project technical reviews.
  • Develop a high degree of technology knowledge in appropriate fields of competence and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures, work instructions, forms and templates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Biomedical, Chemistry, Biology, Mechanical or Materials Sciences Engineering.
  • Typically, 2 to 10 years of relevant Life Sciences experience in new product development (preferably in medical devices, pharmaceutical products).
  • Excellent spoken, written, and read English.
  • First relevant experience in new product development and product design in medical product.
  • Good knowledge of plastic material technology and processing.
  • Ability to formulate autonomously Engineering studies (sampling plan, DoE, …) of moderate complexity.
  • Capable of developing specific technical skills and knowledge when required.
  • Ability to apply with minimal assistance a diversified knowledge of scientific and engineering principles and practices in areas of assignments.
  • Stay informed of state-of-the-art technical developments and trends in areas of technical expertise.
  • Good experience with statistical (Minitab) and Six Sigma (5 why’s, fishbone diagram, DMAIC) tools and methodologies.
  • Numerical modeling experience or Quality by Design (Monte-Carlo) experience is an asset.
  • Computer-aided design & numerical simulation (ex: Monte-Carlo, FEA, Moldflow, CFD, Multiphysics) is an asset.
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team member.
  • Proven critical thinking and ability to solve routine technical problems in a systematic way through design, testing and analysis, with minimal assistance of senior staff.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate technical information (written and verbal) within technical project team.
  • Eagerness to develop specific technical skills and knowledge when required.
  • Proactively create and take advantage of learning opportunities for further implementation on sub-system development activities.
