Full-time Local Controller

Robert Halfis looking for a Financial Controller for a big multinational located in Antwerp.

Our client is a leading worldwide shipping group. They offer all-round logistics services and are active all over the world.

This is a full-time function, with a permanent contract. You will report to the Local agency CFO. Travel may be needed according to tasks.

With an ability and desire to be hands-on as well as strategic, you will be highly collaborative and able to operate in complex, interchangeable environments to deliver desired outcomes.

Tasks:

• Maintain accurate records of accounts;
• Monitor expenditures and reviews monthly financial statements and reports;
• Explain Company regulations/procedures and gathers information to formulate a fiscal-year budget;
• Provide technical assistance and training where by explaining and demonstrating the work to be performed;
• Create good relationships with various group service centers which is key for accuracy and timeliness;
• Production & Analysis of monthly results & KPI’s (both Financial & Operational) in accordance with Company & Corporate Accounting Policies;
• Operational analyses to be shared with functional heads with a strong focus to improve towards targets set by Head Office;
• Analytical Review of income statement & Balance sheet;
• Complete Month End Close routines;
• Together with the CFO prepare annual budget and quarterly forecasts (Revenue, Volume, Corporate costs);
• Prepare analysis and commentary on Actual/Budget/forecast highlights to CFO and MD;
• Prepare Statutory Accounts and Support Statutory Audits with audit deliverables in a timely manner in close cooperation with GL accounting;
• Act as back up for any tax filing (e.g. VAT return, CIT filing);
• System access control with a strong focus on segregation of duty;
• Supporting ad hoc financial and business projects;
• Other duties as and when required.

You will be responsible for ensuring consistent corporate financial strategy through a range of avenues such as managing and allocating accounts, financial statements, and tax data in close cooperation with the GL accounting mgr.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance and 3-5+ years experience in the area;
• Well organized and able to work with monthly and annual tight deadlines;
• Analytical mind; has the ability to interpret and draw relevant insights from various resources;
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
• Open to new approaches and alternative means in order to accomplish results despite setbacks;
• Accuracy in working with large amounts of data;
• Understands and applies commercial and financial principles to improve performance;
• Has a strong need to be independent and focused;
• Ability to work in a challenging and dynamic environment as a team player;
• Knowledge of the maritime, freight forwarding and logistics industries desirable;
• Understanding of both IFRS and BE GAAP.
