Description

We are looking for a Head of Medicinal Chemistryto expand our team, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Research. The Head of Medicinal Chemistry plays a critical role in advancing Agomab’s research projects and enriching its pipeline. This role requires a deep understanding of medicinal chemistry, both from the synthesis as from the compound properties perspective, and an integrated view on drug discovery. Experience in computational chemistry and artificial intelligence-based methodologies for compound design is desired. The ability to collaborate effectively with international (pre)clinical teams and external partners to drive the progress of candidate drugs that directly impact patient care will be key for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overview the medicinal chemistry efforts at Agomab, providing strong support to the research project teams towards preclinical candidate nomination;
  • Drive the Medchem strategy and design of improved lead compounds, bringing insights from the pharmacology, ADMET, PK and safety angles;
  • Inspire and develop a team of organic and medicinal chemists operating from Santiago, Spain, or insourced from CROs, bringing scientific leadership;
  • Ensure a strong performance and sustained quality for the medicinal chemistry work at Agomab;
  • Provide an integrated view on the project datasets, delivering in depth insights in the SAR;
  • Bring insights into the application of and implement computational chemistry and artificial intelligence-based strategies towards compound design;
  • Participate in monitoring the competitive landscape and support the evaluation of external scientific / inlicensing opportunities.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

  • You hold an academic degree and PhD in Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences and are well-trained in the synthesis of small organic molecules;
  • You bring at least 15 years of experience in the field of medicinal chemistry, with industrial experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech company;
  • You have a strong understanding of the pharmacology within different target classes and strong insights in the ADMET / PK parameters driving compound design;
  • You have a demonstrated track record of delivery of Ph1-ready molecules;
  • You have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to rapidly evolving drug discovery and technology advancements, including new modalities for addressing novel disease targets and AI-driven approaches to compound design;
  • You have leadership experience, including a demonstrated ability to inspire, manage, and develop a research team, providing scientific guidance, objectives and motivation;
  • You are an excellent team player with strong oral and written communications skills;
  • You speak and write English fluently. Additional languages are a plus;
  • You are most of all a motivated and self-driven person, independently managing your time and projects.
