Thales Belgium SA, Belgium competence center of Thales, is a company located on 2 sites, one in Tubize (near Brussels) and the other one in Herstal (near Liège). Thales Belgium, which employs more than 280 collaborators, is specialized in the design, development and supply of critical information systems for customers in the sectors of Defense, Security (including Cyber) and Aerospace.

Mission:

Thales Belgium Software & Digital Platform Department is responsible for all the engineering activities related to Application Software developments. As such, this Department leads the work for Architecture, Research and Development, Integration, Validation, Qualification and Production of SW applications solutions and products. These solutions may be embedded on various types of platforms, in the sectors of Defense, Security, Transport and Aerospace.

Main Responsibilities:

The Head Software & Digital Platform Department defines and manages the activity and the team.

In particular, the Software Department is responsible to:

• carry out preliminary studies regarding new technologies in its field of competence;

• establish the technical proposals for developments and enhancements, as well as the related quotations and schedules;

• perform the design, development, validation and industrialization of technical solutions, while respecting the established quotations and schedules.

The Head of Software & Digital Platform Department defines with the other Head of department the strategy to adopt for the deployment of digital platform solution (digital lab). He leads the deployment of the selected solution.

To achieve its objectives, the Department gathers today around 20 people with a mid-term objective of more than 30 persons - both on the company and on customers’ sites - with the following engineering competencies:

• Telecom and networking specialists
• Security specialists
• HMI development
• ATM Specialized Knowledge
• Digital platform

Since the Department uses a large variety of tools and technologies, familiarity with some of the technologies listed below is a must:

• Java (JSE and JEE) Servlets, web services, JSP, JSF,…;
• JQuery / JavaScript ;
• Struts 2 ;
• Spring ;
• Hibernate, JPA ;
• Java Swing ;
• JAVA FX
• C#, .net
• Containerd
• Kubernetes

Understanding of tools such as Jenkins server, Maven, Jira, Stash, GIT, Polarion will be necessary in order to improve departments’ efficiency.

As Head of Software Department Software & Digital Platform, your role consists in particular in:

• Promoting and developing the competencies in connection with the Technical Direction of Thales Belgium, both in terms of technological axis and management of product policy in good alignment with our clients’ needs.
• Ensuring proper cooperation with other Thales Belgium Departments and International Entities of the Group.
• Organizing and managing the bid activities and the achievement of SW developments related projects, as well as validating the specifications and schedules.

• Being responsible and accountable for the achievement of projects’ objectives and the compliance with specifications, budgets and associated deadlines.

• Ensuring the operational management of the department including piloting skills, resource allocation and prioritization within the group.
• Deploying the appropriate development rules and process together with the relevant engineering environment and tools.
• Being able to perform architectural analysis and design if and when needed.

Profile:

Education

• Civil or industrial engineer or equivalent

• Very good command of French and/or Dutch and English

Knowledge and background

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Software development and technical leadership
• Solid and successful previous experience both in team and project management of complex developments and industrialization
• Master engineering performance optimization processes and tools (LEAN, Agile...)
