Soitec Belgium nv based in Hasselt, offers industry-leading GaN-on-Si and GaN-on-SiC material solutions, enabling the next generation of Efficient Power Electronic, RF Power and Sensor devices, with today a strong focus on 5G telecom devices. The III-Nitride epiwafers are deposited by MOCVD in its clean-room facility operated in Hasselt.

What is the job description?

In an innovative environment, we are looking for a Metrology Process Engineer to support Soitec Belgium’s expanding the metrology capacity, we are looking for a skilled and motivated process engineer with experience in material characterization techniques, and preferably with a strong background in semiconductor processes and/or semiconductor material analysis.

Reporting directly to the Metrology Manager, your main missions will be to :

Be responsible for the deployment of new characterization tools and develop related tool operation/measurement procedures.

Be responsible for the coordination of measurements at external metrology facilities.

Support the standard metrology processes of the running production.

Perform in-depth analysis on characterization tools (HR-XRD, microscopy analysis, photoluminescence, contact-less electrical tools, scanning ellipsometry, surface defect analysis…).

Explore alternative characterization techniques for GaN layer stacks and surfaces and coordinate demos with different metrology tool vendors.

Continuously update and improve measurement methodologies to enable production ramp-up, increase yield and enlarge product portfolio.

Implement, with the support of the operating team, standard measurement processes on epiwafer material for product qualification purpose.

Follow and update measurement procedures (e.g. setup SPC), in collaboration with the quality manager.

You are ...

Graduated with a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or Electrical Engineers (electronics) preferably related to semiconductor industry or with a M.S in the same fields with 5 years of work experience in semiconductor industry.

The necessary skills:

· Experience in analytical techniques and in material characterization techniques such as ellipsometry, XRR and XRD is a strong asset.

· A solid background in general semiconductor technology is required; experience with GaN technology is an asset.

· Hands-on experience with semiconductor characterization is mandatory.

· Experience with industrial monitoring of metrology systems (MSA) and data statistical analysis is a strong asset.

· You have outstanding communication and reporting skills.

· Proven ability to work independently, while maintaining open communication.
