miDiagnostics is using silicon chip technology which will bring miniaturized, rapid, easy-to-use, lab-quality PCR tests with built-in connectivity direct to the patient and clinician. Combining a nanofluidic processor on a chip and a compact reader, miDiagnostics can measure virtually any biomarker from an easily accessed sample such as drops of finger prick blood. The Company is developing an extensive portfolio of tests for screening, diagnosis and monitoring of a wide range of health conditions, including infectious diseases.

The Job

We are looking for a talented and versatile R&D Lab technician to support and reinforce our Coating Team. Our team role is to develop and optimize existing and future silicon-chip back-end processes to enable high quality and stable silicon surface functionalization for various medical diagnostic sensor generations. The processes will be focused around 1/ Different surface modification of Si: (plasma) cleaning, thin organic film depositions (CVD) and surface spotting activities, 2/ In depth surface characterization combined with surface long-term stability and (anti)fouling properties evaluations.

As Lab Technician you will be part of our Research team and work/interact with colleagues from multidisciplinary fields.

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Execute studies for the development and optimization of chip surface functionalization required for different product generations within well-defined boundary conditions and timelines;
• Execute (anti)fouling tests to evaluate (non)specific binding of various biological materials (Proteins, Nucleic Acids, blood cells, etc.…);
• Execute dedicated experiments to understand chip surface stability/compatibility with different materials (storage material, testcard, etc.…);
• Find solutions to problems in a creative and scientifically sound way in collaboration with the scientists;
• Summarize data generated and report results to your manager;
• Support in writing work instructions and other relevant documentation (e.g. SOP’s);
• Follow policies and industrial guidelines for medical devices (ISO 13485, GLP,..);
• Participate in maintaining good and safe lab environment.

Job requirements

• You have a (Professional) bachelor’s degree or equivalent by experience in a life science related field such as chemistry, biochemistry, or any other equivalent disciplines;
• Some industrial experience in R&D is an asset;
• Good level of English;
• High attention to detail and well organised. Work in a structured and methodological way is a must;
• Good time management, being flexible and adaptive is a must;
• Hands on, good laboratory and numeracy skills, good record keeping is a must;
• Have passion and enthusiasm for developing new products & processes;
• Knowledge of surface chemistry is a plus;
• Experience with silicon-based surface cleaning and coating such as chemical vapor deposition is a plus;
• Experience with handling oligonucleotides/proteins is a plus;
• Experience with data analysis is a plus;
• Fast learner;
• Team player;
• You feel comfortable working in a start-up environment and adapt easily to a changing environment;
• You appreciate working in an open space amongst enthusiastic, multidisciplinary and international colleagues;
• You’re entitled to work and live in Belgium.
