Esko Cloud is the place where packaging professionals collaborate to specify all the details of the packaging you find in supermarkets, pharmacies, warehouses, etc. Thereafter, they use Esko software (in the cloud or in‐house)
to produce the packaging and use the cloud for further collaboration around delivery timing and quality control.
Esko R&D is a team of 300 enthusiastic software designers, developers, testers, who work together to create the Esko software suite for packaging. We excel in our understanding of packaging production, 2D graphics, 3D CAD,
workflow management and process automation.

The Software Engineer is a unique opportunity to Contribute in a meaningful way to the further growth of Esko’s Cloud team, by designing & developing the backend services and infrastructure for Esko Cloud applications, such as on‐line packaging design and collaboration tools (2D and 3D), web to print systems and digital asset management systems. Since the platform will be used by up to 100,000 concurrent users, scalability, monitoring, and security are main concerns. Think of designing the control room which our operations team will use to run Esko Cloud.
In this role, you will be part of a team of engineers using agile development practices (scrum). The product owner states the problem and the team brainstorms possible solutions and decides on the user interface with the help of
the user interface engineer. All code goes through review by two other software engineers. This is an ideal way to learn from each other and in the end, the delivered software is the responsibility of the whole team.
Your responsibilities as a back‐end engineer include:
- Design and develop core cloud Services
- Design and develop monitoring systems, taking advantage of AWS Technology
- Contribute to the architectural design of Esko Cloud
- Write well‐structured Java or Scala code or domain‐specific languages with good documentation, unit tests,
- Work together with seasoned cloud developers who are never too old to learn
- Report to the Chief Software Architect
On top of that, Esko is an international company, so it is always possible to work abroad for an extended period.
We are looking for a person who:
- is deeply interested in the technologies that drive the cloud. You are up to date with this fast‐changing
- landscape and are willing to continue learning and adopting new technology. - You understand Cloud architecture patterns and best practices for designing highly available, scalable and secure systems.
- is persistent with details and takes ownership for the quality of your work.
- can work well together with other developers, testers, support people and management, helping everybody to excel in their specializations.
- loves experimenting with new technologies, bring them forward to the team, and deploy and teach them, while having respect for adoption difficulties and proposed alternatives.
- prioritizes the customer’s needs over the beauty or the ease of development.
- Is proficient in spoken and written English
- You are a trained computer scientist or can prove similar skill sets through experience.
- You have excellent knowledge of Java‐based web/cloud development
