Job Purpose

This is a senior leadership position on the Industrial Operations Leadership Team (IOLT) for Vaccines. The VP Head of Vaccines Engineering is responsible for leading and developing the global vision and strategy for Engineering across the GSK vaccines network, as well as developing and maintaining a centre of expertise on critical and core facility technologies and automation.

This critical position carries a very high level of decision-making authority and impact on the long-term horizon for vaccines at GSK. It is also jointly responsible, with IOLT colleagues, for ensuring the continuous supply of vaccines, in line with GSK business objectives, to meet customer needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, construction and qualification of GSK Vaccines strategic capital investments (above 10 m £) worldwide, and all major projects in Belgium and devices, to agreed cost and quality standards.
  • Responsible for qualification (Installation and Operational Qualification).
  • Assure implementation and use of consistent policies, standards and methods for project management, engineering and qualification.
  • Provide functional expertise with a center of competencies on critical and core facility technologies and automation in the fields of vaccines manufacturing.
  • Manage a consolidated financial and progress monitoring dashboard of the entire capex portfolio.
  • Define with Procurement, and implement, adequate strategy with suppliers of Technical Services to minimize total costs.
  • Support the implementation of a global maintenance excellence program across Manufacturing sites.
  • Lead Belgium Site Management (BeSM) facility management across Belgium.
  • Lead Sustainability program across Vaccines.
Lead a Global Engineering Team Across Current Vaccines Activities
  • Lead and manage project definition and engineering project management for Vaccines strategic capital investments and all major capital projects in Belgium.
  • Provide technical expertise in core facilities technologies and lead maintenance excellence methodology and tools deployment (impact on maintenance OPEX > 200 MM£/year across the network).
  • Lead the global automation team across Vaccines.
  • Lead global strategy for Enterprise facility Management (EFM).
  • Lead Belgium Site management to provide facility services to Belgium.
  • Align Engineering function across the network through international engineering leads.
  • Provide a consolidated project control view for the entire Vaccines capex portfolio (500 MM£/year) and accountable to deliver capital plan.
  • Lead the Sustainability program across Vaccines.
  • Line manage a team of 8 direct reports, with a total indirect reporting team in the region of 120-150 FTE.
Health, Safety & Environment
  • Ensure appropriate support to the health, safety & environment policies and requirements in its own department.
  • Ensure that EHS standard & performance are met in the global engineering department.
Quality
  • Ensure compliance of all operations to Quality and Regulatory requirements.
  • Build GPS/Continuous improvement expertise across the teams to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Share and integrate best practices within the Vaccines Supply Network.
People Management And Development
  • Lead, train, coach and motivate management team and employees towards the pursuit of operational excellence and attainment of Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Manage a significant number of people through effective performance management.
  • Ensure the retention, engagement and development of key talents within the organization.
  • Ensure effective talent management process and succession plan for key roles in the network to minimize operational risks.
Minimum Qualifications Required
  • Degree qualification in an engineering discipline, with further specialist qualifications to at least Diploma level.
  • 15+ years’ experience in Engineering in a manufacturing environment including a large experience in leadership.
  • International & global experience required.
  • Communication ability in English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Qualified to at least Masters level in mechanical/chemical Engineering.
  • Broad knowledge of global healthcare business.
  • Strategic thinking ability.
  • Able to lead matrix organization with global and central sites/functions.
  • Capability to drive major changes through change management strategies and implementation.
  • Understanding and application of CI tools and techniques.
  • Strong financial understanding.
  • Strong people management and coaching abilities.
  • Influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Communication ability in French.
