Summarized Purpose:
Manages the operations of the department and ensures quality completion of all laboratory tasks involving patient/subject populations for all phases of drug development. Ensures laboratory compliance with organization policies and procedures as well as OSHA and CLIA guidelines. Serves as an esclation point for laboratory related issues.
Essential Functions
- Manages staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations. Approves courses of action on salary administration, hiring, corrective action, and terminations. Reviews and approves time records, expense reports, requests for leave, and overtime.
- Defines and reviews all lab packets and coordinates resolutions to any issue/concern.
- Ensures delivery of excellent quality and timelines including communication and organization of activities with teams.
- Monitors overall performance and delivery of laboratory product.
- Reviews and analyzes abnormal reports to looks for trends in lab results.
- Obtains and analyzes data for Quality Management meetings to support management decisions.
- Collaborates cross-functionally to optimize the department including utilizing the LIS to its highest functionality.
Education And Experience
- Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0 to 5 years).
- 1+ year of leadership responsibility
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Good knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and FDA regulations
- Good knolwedge clinical laboratory testing, special handling processing, and laboratory instrumentation
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail
- Good time management and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Directly supervises individual contributors, administrative support and / or entry-level professionals.
