Environment

One of the main tasks of the Economics and Research Department of the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) involves conducting economic and financial analyses and research. These are in part designed to support the NBB’s missions in the fields of monetary policy and prudential policy, as well assessing the economic policy in general. This should be fostered by the Bank’s support to academic research, in particular its decision to promote the use of microeconomic databases for academic research.

The Bank offers its employees a working environment that gives them the best analysis and research tools available and access to a wide-ranging collection of statistical data, whether economic and financial, microeconomic or macroeconomic. Specialised training courses as well as participation in (inter)national networks and working groups form an integral part of the opportunities for NBB staff.

Research Department staff members are required to work together, as well as with other Departments of the NBB and other national and international institutions. They also have very close ties with institutions that specialise in economic research, particularly in academic circles.
