The Health Unit of VITO is looking for a data & web service expert who will contribute to the design and implementation of a distributed data infrastructures for storage, access and reuse of all relevant data, to support EU-wide stakeholders in assessing the impact of chemicals on human health. You will combine large repositories and databases, containing well-curated datasets, and smaller distributed data repositories created within the scope of research projects.

In collaboration with European research partners, EU agencies and risk assessment agencies in EU member states, you will define requirements, translate them into overall architecture(s) and main components (following FAIR principles). You will give specific attention to access and reuse of personal data. Within VITO you will work closely together with experts of the Data Science Hub and of other Units having operational experience in setting up complex and collaborative data infrastructures, and with domain experts on Environment & Health.

Job requirements

For this position we expect that

  • You have a thorough knowledge of and hands-on experience with distributed data infrastructures and services.
  • You can implement practical solutions to bring FAIR data principles into practice.
  • You are flexible, agile and eager to interact and collaborate
  • with experts and stakeholders in different domains (environment, food, health, toxicology, modelling, open science, …), to understand their needs, requirements and constraints, and the specificities of their domain of expertise;
  • with data-technical experts, discussing, adopting and, where necessary, adapting existing solutions for interoperability and reuse of data.
  • You organize your work independently and you take the lead to get things forward.
  • You speak and write English at full professional level.

Preferably, you are familiar with Environment & Health data and chemical risk assessment data, and with the use and reuse of personal, sensitive data, taking into account legal and ethical constraints such as the GDPR, and you have worked successfully in a highly multidisciplinary, international context.
