Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD position at the Department of Business Administration, Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). The successful candidate will join a research project examining the development and dynamics of emerging DefenseTech entrepreneurial ecosystems in Europe. The research will focus on the collaboration between startups, corporates, intermediaries, and governments to foster security innovation and societal resilience, with an emphasis on strategic autonomy and technological sovereignty in a changing geopolitical landscape. The project employs case studies and draws on theories from entrepreneurship, innovation systems, and institutional theory.

Requirements

– Master’s degree in entrepreneurship, innovation, public policy, security studies, or a related social science field

– Strong interest in the intersection of innovation and security

– Willingness to conduct qualitative research

– Motivation to contribute to research on innovation ecosystems and dual-use technology

The position offers a fully funded four-year contract, a gross monthly salary of at least €2300, and Estonian national health insurance. Supervision will be provided by Dr. Jan Harima and Professor Tarmo Kalvet.
