Business Context And Main Purpose Of The Job

Unilever’s Global Competition Team identifies and manages competition law risks and opportunities, and provides advice that supports and drives the achievement of Unilever’s strategic objectives. We are a dynamic small team of three senior lawyers and one paralegal/assistant. Our ambition is to pioneer innovative competition legal work to help steer Unilever ahead of the curve as the purpose-driven leader in consumer goods markets worldwide.

Due to the growth of our business we now have an exciting opening for an additional role in the team with a focus on our global ice-cream (IC) business which includes iconic brands like Magnum, Cornetto, Wall’s and Ben & Jerry’s.

The position can be based in Brussels, Rotterdam or London, also depending on personal preferences of the candidate. Part-time working solutions (at least 70 %) are possible. We work hybrid and flexibly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advising the global Ice Cream business and legal team on antitrust-related questions.
  • Leading the antitrust risk mitigation strategy across the global Ice Cream Business Group, notably through design and implementation of tailor-made business solutions that strengthen Unilever’s competitive edge while safeguarding regulatory compliance.
  • Advising and supporting local lawyers with deploying such strategy in their markets.
  • Across all of Unilever’s Business Groups, advising business & developing, updating and delivering global policies, guidelines and training on competition law.
  • Continuously optimising the competition law skills of other internal lawyers and (antitrust) compliance champions.
  • Identifying possible cartel damage claims against suppliers, determining losses and realizing claims in collaboration with Procurement.
Requirements
  • This position is created to further enhance antitrust business partnering and compliance efforts and to reduce outside counsel spend. Therefore, excellent legal skills are indispensable especially in relation to the rules on abuse of dominance and vertical restrictions. An EU legal background is helpful given the particular relevance of European markets and jurisdictions for this role. Candidates should have 4-10 years designated competition law experience from working in the antitrust teams of an international law firm and/or a multinational company.
  • Strong business acumen and eagerness to acquire a deep understanding of Unilever Ice Cream business’ route-to-market models is essential.
  • A collaborative mindset and excellent project management skills are key for the successful implementation of complex legal solutions in a dynamic global business environment.
  • A bias for action and a creative, solution-orientated approach.
  • Capacity to reduce complexity in easily comprehensible, impeccable English.
  • Confidence in interactions with senior business stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments to successful completion.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently.
