Head Actuarial Function (m/f/x)

Within the governance system, you will be one of the four independent control functions of the second line of defence (LoD) working under the lead of the Chief Risk Officer (CRO).

Your mission (should you choose to accept it ): review, advice and report on the actuarial calculations. You will review and provide an opinion on the technical provisions and evaluate the data quality. You will (together with the Risk Manager) evaluate and analyze the reserving and pricing risk.

You will work closely together with the Head of Reserving and the Quantitative Risk Manager (this latter is also part of the Actuarial department).

We are the Risk Team, consisting of the Risk Management Function, Actuarial Function and the Compliance function and we are looking for a good match to fill in the spot of the Head of the Actuarial Function. We represent the independent control functions united under the responsibility of Gwendolyne, our CRO. We are a diverse, self-steered, enthusiastic and solution-oriented team. • Contact person for the supervisory authority with respect to questions on the technical provisions, reinsurance policy and pricing;
• Quarterly assessment of technical provisions estimations (frequency that D.A.S.
  defined internally).
• Review of the pricing done by 1st line of defence, after having been informed of
  a new product process.
• Assessment of general tariff increase and profitability analysis done by 1st LoD;
• Assessment of the forecast of technical provisions (including ORSA)
• Overall coordination of the calculation of the technical provisions and evaluation of the corresponding data quality (including whether the IT systems (AI) used in the calculation of technical provisions sufficiently support the actuarial and statistical procedures);
• Ensure that the methodologies, underlying models and assumptions used for the calculation of the technical provisions are suitable.
• Inform the board of directors and the management committee of the reliability and adequacy of the calculation of technical provisions.
• Express an opinion on the insurance company’s general underwriting policy.
• Express an opinion on the adequacy of reinsurance arrangements.
• Take responsibility for all the corresponding actuarial reports.
• Share knowledge and provide guidance for the Qualitative risk manager.

• Perfect knowledge of Dutch or French (good understanding other language) and English.
• You have a degree in Actuarial Sciences and have good knowledge or experience as Actuarial Function.
• Even if you can perfectly work independently, you are (self-steered) team minded;
• You must fulfil the Fit & Proper requirements for the NBB.
• Advanced Excel knowledge is a must; knowledge of VBA is desirable.
• 5y actuarial (and the corresponding SII calculations) experience in a non-life insurance company.
• You are fond of numbers and can easily explain your analysis in simple terminology.
• Finding solutions to situations is a reflex and you have an eagle eye that misses no important detail.
• You know what makes you tick, are eager to learn and want to develop yourself.
• Pragmatic, open for feedback, critical yet positive.
• Even if you can perfectly work independently, you are (self-steered) team minded.
