ROLE:Head of Data Science & Bioinformatics

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Head of Data Sciences and Bioinformatics to join the Research and Development Department.

This is a great opportunity to shape iTeos’ data science strategy and infrastructure. The successful candidate will have a strong bioinformatic/data science background with an R&D scientific focus, proven project and people leadership, strong expertise in data infrastructure solutions, strategic acumen and excellent communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams and external vendors. In addition, the candidate will have an ability to engage and collaborate across organizational boundaries with an entrepreneurial attitude by acting with urgency and agility.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build and lead a team of computational biology scientists to support drug discovery and development through data-driven approaches. Set the strategy and objectives of the team, implement the necessary processes for successful and timely execution.
• Lead the evaluation, selection, and project management of CROs in the functional space.
• Develop a vision for, and ensure the implementation of, appropriate data infrastructure solutions, policies and workflows across multiple data types (including genomics, pharmacogenomics, proteomics, and metabolomics) and in close collaboration with information technology, quality assurance, and functional data managers. Oversee and drive the appropriate strategy of in-house activities vs outsourcing to achieve the optimal outcome for the company.
• Lead the evaluation, selection and/or development of state-of-the-art data science methodologies for immuno-oncology, to support drug discovery and development activities at scale (e.g., target/disease identification and quantification, mechanistic insights, patient characterization and stratification, etc.)
• Oversee the development and integration of tools, applications and statistical workflows that enable interactive, hypothesis-driven data analysis by scientists with diverse levels of computational and bioinformatic expertise.
• Conducts collaborative research in projects involving integrative analyses of high throughput data of various types, in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders such as preclinical, translational medicine and biostatistics teams.
• Be the technical leader of the Data Science/Bioinformatics team, instituting best practices while crafting a data-driven culture, developing, and mentoring members of the team.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

• A PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computational biology, or related discipline, with 8+ years of hands-on experience.
• Experienced in managing a team of computational scientists.
• In development and implementation of data infrastructure and management platforms, preferably within the biopharma industry.
• Track record in, developing and ing tools for data science and/or advanced analytics, bioinformatics, AI or related (e.g. publications in top-tier journals and conferences, patents, awards, etc.)
• Strong experience in NGS and other ‘omics data analysis (RNA-seq, TCR-seq, ATAC-seq, whole exome sequencing, etc.).
• Expert proficiency in R, Python or related software environments.
• Strong background in oncology and immunology is highly preferred.
• Able to work in highly matrixed and cross-functional environments.
• Well organized and rigorous, capable of adapting to changes in priorities and to work effectively on multiple immune-oncology programs in a fast-paced work environment.
• Strong motivation and attention to detail.
• Fluent in English (oral and written).
