Lawter, a leading supplier to the graphic arts, adhesives, specialty coatings, aroma chemicals and synthetic rubber industries is looking for the right individuals to join its innovation team to: pioneer new technologies, research and develop new products, convert business development opportunities into new products and prototype innovations to drive long term business growth. The scope of the Innovation organization includes 1) leveraging advantaged rosin availability and usage in new markets and 2) the development of new markets, new technologies or new value offerings to deliver exceptional and sustainable growth.


For its headquarters in Europe (Kallo), Lawter is looking for a:


INNOVATION SCIENTIST (M/V/X)


As a innovation scientist you develop innovative new products, in accordance with Innovation Group initiatives and projects. You are a lead researcher and manage development projects for technologically sophisticated products to successful implementation. Interest in sustainability, green chemistry is highly desirable.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • You actively contribute to ideation and development of intellectual property. Literature search and proposal of new developments that leads to new projects.
  • You identify gaps and solve problems between internal capabilities and new product’s requirements.
  • You develop, nurture and utilize network of technical experts from current and potential markets, customer bases and suppliers as well as technical experts from universities and technical institutes to identify emerging issues and technologies.
  • You maintain high level of knowledge and awareness of regulatory standards and regulations. You gather technical intelligence by reading published literature, patents and press releases and attending conferences and tradeshows.
  • You actively cooperate and communicate with all internal functions and resources, particularly R&D, Business Development, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Engineering in order to leverage internal synergies.
  • You conduct specification and feasibility analysis on new products
  • You present project updates using PowerPoint and other presentation software. Regular reporting in English is required. Knowledge of Project Management is desired.
  • You conduct business activities in accordance with Company policy, EH&S, and Business Ethics.

Education/Experience:


  • You have experience in organic synthesis and understanding of the relationship between molecular structure and performance in a determined application is required. Experience in synthesis at pilot level (1 -2 kg or higher) is desired.
  • You have knowledge of typical characterization techniques including DSC, DMTA, GPC, FTIR, NMR is required
  • You have a MS or Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry or related field.
  • Experience in a product development role is preferable.
  • Experience with creative problem solving techniques such as TRIZ or experience in Project Management is desirable

Skills and abilities:

  • Ability to work and communicate in an office, professional lab environment and a plant-manufacturing environment. Travel may be required as needed with minimal global travel.
  • Good English oral and written communication skills are required.
  • At a level consistent with stated degree.
  • You must be able to think through complex issues analytically, even in difficult, emotionally charged situations. You must be able to analyze multiple causes and solutions to complex problems and maintain a clear sense of perspective, seeing different aspects of a problem and then focusing on the key issues. You must be able to develop and hold a clear understanding of priorities and work in a multicultural cross-functional and multidisciplinary environment.

  • You are able to manage own assignments on schedule and in accordance with project.

Physical demands: standing, sitting, bending, stooping. Lifting up to a maximum of 15 kg.

Work environment: business office environment. Lab environment. Plant locations, customer locations.
