Obsolescence management is the proactive approach to keep track of the status of devices or components. Tackle obsolescence issues or upcoming obsolescence issues - which will lead to saving costs and time (by avoiding redesigns, purchase via brokers,...)

The lifetime of a train/metro/tram is 30-40 years but the availability of the components is not 30-40 years, which is causing issues. The availability of spare parts and the ability to do repairs in this sector is important. It is important that in this thesis there is a business case in were the cost of obsolescence management is compared to an update of the fleet or a redesign of the fleet.
