Background of Barco Labs

Barco Labs, a research group within Barco, is continuously challenging the state-of-the-art and developing new features that could be incorporated into Barco products within 2 to 5 years from now. To validate our innovative ideas, we conduct corporate research and build prototypes which are regularly demonstrated to our stakeholders. Barco Labs has a strong background in pixel processing, more specifically in developing computer vision algorithms and GPU processing.

Goal & Description of the project

Depth estimation, measuring the relative distance to a camera, is a common problem in computer vision. Next to the well-known applications such as autonomous driving and robot navigation, it is also of great interest to the healthcare domain. Various AI approaches for depth estimation have been proposed in the literature. However, these strategies are typically developed for natural scenes where data are abundantly available and depth sensors (e.g. LiDAR) are often used to create accurate ground truth maps.

In this internship, the student will research and implement robust computer vision algorithms for depth estimation that can deal with the challenges typically encountered in healthcare applications (e.g. limited amount of data, no depth sensors available, occlusions, etc.). While the goal is to develop an algorithm for monocular depth estimation, stereo image sequences will be available to train the model.

About Internships At Barco

Internships within the Barco Labs group consist of 3 to 6 months working fulltime in the lab environment. During your internship you will be guided by our engineers who are experts in the field of machine learning and image processing. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to cutting edge research by applying your technical knowledge, and you will have ample opportunity and support for developing your industrial writing and presentation skills.

We are a lively and international group, including nationalities from Europe and around the world.
